I just started a trap assassin in D2 few weeks back. I'm a lone wolf and like to solo this game, but when I reach hell with immune lightning I'm screw. I have to run and find no lightning immune mobs and kill them and then explode their body to kill the immune.
I know that this topic was already mentionned before but I can't find it back. Anyway is there any blue post on immune encounters and how this mechanic will work ?
DiabloFans: http://diablowiki.com/Resistances" rel="nofollow" Resistances played a huge part in Diablo II, but if you were not lucky with gear drops you would get very quickly overwhelmed in Nightmare/Hell difficulties. Can you give us any details on how the system will be changing? Will it replace the immunity system or will they go hand in hand, once again?
Jay Wilson: Well, the main reason for immunities in the game was to encourage party play. However, we have seen that some players just want to play by themselves? And that is fine, if a player wants to play single player, the player wants to play single player, we're not going to strong arm them into playing with others. Keeping this in mind, we aren't looking to have full immunities or anything of the sort; however we are considering keeping one-element immunities on enemies. Because of the way our skill system works it's almost impossible to build a character that won't have some alternate skill to attack an enemy. So then it becomes an interesting use of a skill or skills that you may not be using all the time. We think that's interesting and fun gameplay, to have to adapt to situations. The adaptation just shouldn't be realizing your character or class is broken and you have to run away or you need to get in a multiplayer game. Those are things we intend to avoid forcing the player into.
I think a lot of people have misread this statement. There will still be immunes to single elements. Just no: immune to fire, cold, and lightning monsters. However, as stated, with the wider build varieties, this shouldn't be a problem.

I think the conclusion of this is we cannot compare D2 and D3, because in D2, you have to main spec on 1 element to be more effective with the synergy. This is paradoxal for a solo player like me because the ecounters have immunity in hell and nightmare.
Synergy is cool, but in the same way it can force the player to select preselected skills and remove this kind of freedom because the other build become obsolete in front of the synergy build.
At least if they keep synergy, they should spreak over a maximum of 3-4 skills, because over this it will compromise the freedom of builds.
But when I saw what Jay Wilson said about immunity, I think we should not worry about this.
Synergies will be completely off the game as I recall. Traits will take their place with different points to allocate to them. They'll make builds stronger or more versatile, you name it.
Also, upgrading your existing skills and using runes will also make a big difference for all 7 skills we're allowed to get at a time.
