I'm super-excited for the upcoming Diablo3 Beta. (Not exactly sure when, but lets hope soon)
But what worries me is that not everyone is going to be chosen to be a beta tester.
And it pisses me off that some WoW nerds who'll be playing wow anyways will have a beta game registered in their acc for no reason...
players from Starcraft Universe and WoW Universe together combines for more than 13million. At the very minimum, 4+ Million people must have opted in for beta already. we are 1/4,000,000 xD
Aside from my worries, I'm looking for DiabloFans.com's future D3 beta key giveaway.
Granted the fact that diablofans.com is one of the biggest diablo fansite, I'm sure Bashiok will probably hand over bunch of D3 beta key for people on the forum.
DiabloFans.com will be recieving them right?
I'm looking forward to the contests or just random raffle, anything that I can get my hands on the beta key.
btw, How many beta testers will Blizzard invite? and what would you do if you werent selected as a tester.
I know I would just watch a lot of Force's video on youtube, cuz thats what I did with SC2.
watch tons of husky and HDStarcraft. They gained so many views, now making big bucks from youtube partner
Whoever uploads the most content during the beta will really get their channel going, as non-testers will have to
resort to those videos.
DiabloFans will most likely get beta keys to give away but it's a bit early to know how many we'll get or what kind of contests there will be to distribute them.
If you are selected by Blizzard through the beta opt-in, you'll receive an e-mail telling you the Diablo III beta is now availiable in your battle.net account. No links to it etc, just log in to the account and you'll see it activated.
Now beta invites usually come in waves. A few thousand invites at first (press and known testers from previous beta tests in most cases), then more every few weeks.
We're currently planning ahead to be efficient with the info we get from the beta from whoever gets beta keys in the forum. There's going to be lots to discuss and analyze.
PS. I used to be a WoW nerd for quite a few years (grand total of 5 years with some breaks in between) but i consider myself a hardcore Diablo fan. Just like many fellow WoW nerds too who just got bored of playing Diablo II after all these years.
Just stay tuned and make sure you post in the threads we make to distribute the keys once we get them! That's going to give you way more chances than people have with the opt-ins anyway.
As i said before it's a bit early to say for sure how we're going to distribute them, but i don't think it's going to be art contests for the exact reasons Donsro mentioned. Not everyone can paint or write.
I guess we'll worry when the beta announcement is made and will come up with a solution later.
Giving keys to people who did some work with the wiki could possibly be a fair way to award people contributing to the community, but we haven't really discussed it just yet.
either sixen does or people who have friend keys do.
O.o How would i decide?
That was just one of my ideas
P.S - Hey sixen, I'm rdy to get down on my knees, where you live baby?
By the speculation of things, your prob gonna be handing out beta key to all your friends, and forum moderators. I wanna be your friend now.
by friend keys he means e-mails sent by Blizzard to people already in the beta. Those include 1-3 beta keys to give as they please.
A WoW guildie gave me one for StarCraft II and i received one myself that i gave to friends.
The batch of keys Blizzard will give to the site, Sixen will give away as he did in his Starcraft site during its beta.
It's going to be so crazy. 10 million people are going to go after the beta keys.
Their prob going to be worth a lot.... on Ebay. The first wave of SC2 beta keys went for $250 on Ebay if i remember correctly. With the popularity of D3, and the fact that It hasn't been leaked unlike SC2, the value will probably somewhere around $450 in the first wave.
If you DO get the beta keys Sixen, I hope whatever decision you make will be a good one as the rest of the community will be here patiently waiting for them.
P.S - Not all mods will be getting a "Free" beta key are they? I remember Teamliquid didnt give it out to all their mods, as they had about 50+. Only few who were able to broadcast live and upload youtube videos for the rest of the community to see were given one. Just curious. These beta keys will be so hard to come by >.<
If you bought the live feed or went to blizzcon 10 you have a chance to get one of one-thousand that will be given. At the closing ceremony they said 1000 keys would be given out to attendees or people who bought the live stream so i'm hoping i get one of those.

Not even Death will save you from Diablo Bunny's Cuteness!
There's still too many "IF's" to say something specific, that's about all we as a team can say.
Blizzard was quite generous to the Starcraft II fansites, though. IF (last if i swear :P) they do the same with Diablo III there should be enough keys for many active members.
But for that we need to wait for the beta announcement and for Blizzard to actually give us beta keys.
It would be nice if it would allow me to opt in but so far it wont let me do that. So I probably wont get invited :'( Hopefully theres an easy contest I can win for one

In the last 2 months of the SC 2 beta, didn't everyone who applied got a beta invitation ? With that said I'd like to receive one earlier then that... but it's better then nothing.
i think everyone needs to remember that your not just going to be able to get keys from here, i got my SC2 key from doing SC's trivia they posted on facebook. For every set of questions they released 100 keys, and they did this like 5 times a day for a few weeks.
So theres plenty of opportunity, so dont start laying all of your hopes in receiving one from this site. Im sure blizz will do something similar.

Yea. I wish I got into SC2 earlier. I think I got my key in the last wave.
But Husky and HDStarcraft did a great job posting up content from the beta, now they are making big bucks from youtube.
I'm expecting a lot of commentators from WoW and SC2 will shift over to D3. This will be insane.
