There are things through the games that have been left over that we never have been informed about or not. If they arent being used or implemented in something else, why cant we know? Why hasnt blizzard told us? Like this, from D2
"There are traces of a deleted event/quest in Act II that can still be heard by playing the character speech files. Apparently it involved some kind of invisible, magical barrier that blocked the player from venturing further. The player was then supposed to head back to town. It is unknown why this event never made it to the final release, nor what the background of the 'forcefield' was."
and the leftovers on the CDs that were never used, like the rumored quest from Gillian in D1
Or like all the extras we never saw that was shown in an excellent post awhile ago giving us the leftover d2images of what llooked like guild or group setups and more.
Why hasnt blizzard just told us what was up with these things if they were scraped, and are currently nevermore? I understand if there going to use it somewhere, but im sure not all of these will. And if anyone else knows more, please post, and discuss these or them.

My gut feeling says: deadlines. They had to cut stuff from the final product to make their deadlines.
I do want to state that, in my opinion, only the content that was released is canon. Maybe they will implement some sort of forcefield in the borderlands, which would be a pretty cool throwback, but that's a bit farfetch'd.
even if it was cut fr deadlines, why not say "This is what we planned, and we ran short of time, so this is how it wouldve ran, what wouldve happened, ect ect" Its not like itve been hard. Like now saying UREH has been cut, will they tell us what weouldve happened? Probably not because THAT can be implemented in an expansion, but all the d2 and 1, why not?
And further discussion, say for example the one from act2 WAS scrapped, what do you think replaced it, what was a short simple quest in A2 that couldve been lesser than what that wouldve been.
Maybe THE TAINTED SUN because we had to go through that path requardless for the horadric staff quest? "Hell, we cant do the barrier, lets make it DARK! Thats easy and taks little time"
Thats the only one that makes sense, couldnt be the summoner, that was meant because of the Warrior-Rogue-Mage Diablo/DW-Blood Raven-False Summoner.
??what you think

I agree with you that they could just tell what their plans were. But on the other hand: what's the point? Yeah, you know what Diablo 2 could have been, but does that get you anywhere?
Comparing this situation to what is happening with D3 is something I wouldn't do. Blizzard has been very open towards its fanbase with information regarding the development of Diablo 3. They heavily implied that Ureh would be a place we could visit. When they cut it from the game they had to say that to the community, because fans were getting all worked up about going there.
If they would provide any information now about what was cut from the game 10 years ago it would only be a fun fact. It wouldn't really change how Diablo 2 is, or how Diablo 3 is going to be. It only gives an insight into an alternate universe where the data was used.
Now about the barrier. I think it would replace the Summoner quest (not the NPC). I always thought that it is redundant, since you can easily merge it into the Arcane Sanctuary quest. So I think that that barrier was a complete quest. I don't know when and where it would start and take place, but that's just mu suggestion.
thats what im saying, I think it WAS a complete quest but had to be replaced with something quick. You think the summoner? I see your reason, but id stilll think it would be the dark sky one from A2, because the whole point is to travel in a bit more darkness than usual untill you do the thing at the CVT, which we had to go to anyway because of the staff, it always seemed redundant to me.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Ive also had thoughts of its relation to a quest in A3. The blade of old religion creates a "barrier" that stops monsters from entering the town. Maybe they moved it up and changed it a bit, instead of a barrier that stoped further adventure, they made it the DISAPPEARANCE of a barrier that savies the city from monsters.
And yes, the information wouldnt do much but me fun facts, but wouldnt you want that? I think it would be amazingly cool to find out what was going through developers minds that never came to completion. Maybe its just me?

Reading the first part of your post made me think of the amount of redundant quests in Act 2. In fact Act 2 was only one huge quest, split up over different sub-quests. Both The Tainted Sun and The Summoner are a bit redundant, because you would have to go to those places no matter what.
At least Act 4 was kind enough to admit that it had no extra content. What if you had an extra quest called 'Heaven's Messenger', which tasked you to search out Hadriel, Guardian of the River of Flame, to gain info on your next objective. But I digress.
It could be that the idea of a barrier in Act 3 was derived from the idea of a barrier in Act 2, but besides being a barrier I can't really link the two together.
But of course it's a more personal thing. I, for one, am not that interested in content that was removed from a game made 10 years ago. Especially when there is practically no prospect of seeing that content ever again, like the quest Gillian would have given. If I would come across it I would probably read it, think "I didn't know that" and move on.
i guess its personal preferance. No problem with that. And for the most part, yea ur right about act2... 3 real quests. radament alone, after rad-CVT creating the staff, everything else, find and destroy duriel. However, I do like the idea of the seven tombs, but I think it wouldve been better if they hadnt given us the right one, just made each smaller so going through 4 to find them wouldnt be bad, or deployind a few ppl to a few tombs at a time online.
And everyone knew about act4 lol, but I think it wouldve been more redundant to make "Destroy Soulstone" quest and "Eliminate Hephasto the Armourer" quest lol kinda like summoner.
But for that aspect, A3 was the same, just replace the flail with staff... ahhh the repetition... hopefully not D3 though!

I would love to see the content that couldn't make it into the game... they're fun facts
yeah, is true that knowing what would have been doesn't ad nothing to the game experience, but some of us are obsessed enough to wish to know every single bit of info possible... even those things that have no use at all, except for the "oh, I would loved that feature/quest in the game... oh well, to bad" feeling xD
yea really, im like that. Id be the one if somone said there were traces of picking up cow dung quest after you kill hell bovine, id be like why the fk didnt you tell us???? lol just fun to have the random useless info.
