I'm a new member so i'll do a short intro of myself. When i found out about the announcement of D3 i became very excited. I purchased diablo 1 over 10 years ago and played the game as a kid and i fell in love with it.
Recently i started playing d1 again. In d1, there is no magic find. In d2, they introduced magic find. I liked the absence of +mf modifiers in d1 because it meant that you could potentially find EVERYTHING. In the few weeks i've been playing d1 again, i've already found a small amount of rare items, including a windforce!!
In diablo 2, they introduced magic find, and even with a mf dedicated character, finding the most godly items in the game can be almost impossible (without the use of bots).
My diablo 2 experience is mainly before duping existed (v1.08). Before duping, even items that weren't so "godly" could be hard to find or expensive to trade for. After duping, good items became almost abundant. People that have only played v1.09 and later probably won't understand where i'm coming from. The introduction of duping really changed the way the game felt/played.
In summary, i liked the absence of magic find in D1 because finding good items, although difficult, seemed tangible. In D2, it seemed like finding the items you want was always out of reach, no matter how good your MF character was. D1 just seemed so much more satisfying in that aspect.
What do you guys think?
Oh, and i understand that having something such as magic find can increase the variety of character builds and slightly increase the replay value. But all i ask is that they make finding rare items a bit less out of reach, which was the overall feeling in to D2

I don't like MF. Turns the game into an item-hunt instead of a slash-fest.
This is also a very good description of how i feel.
I just want realistic item drops. I am tired of seeing 55,000 gps dropping along with a unique monarch shield and a great sword...it is all being dropped by a hell fallen one. ><

Those before me shall quiver in my wake as I unleash the fury within!
If they get rid of mf, I think they need to get rid of hell being able to drop spiked clubs, because mf was the only way to kind of combat the decreased chance of getting something useful.

Did blizzard really think that by reaching Hell difficulty I still might find a use for a spiked club? Or any other Normal item?
I like the idea of MF. It not only increases your chances to get better gear, but you can customize and scale equipted items to help you find better gear. Its unique to the Diablo series1!!!
I don't think the idea of turning MF into "1-5 items out of 300 monsters killed" is solving the problem. It would just turn into a monster farm, rather than a boss farm.
ChoChoChidori, your sig gave me an idea. What if the first registered online player of D3 to kill a monster got to hear a sound clip that said "First Blood!"

For finding more or better items I think that acquiring gear and therefore being able to kill faster should be your increase in finding items.
I'm sure they will change the mechanics in some way at least for D3.
