It seems no matter how much I try, my Wizard is just not putting out the damage she needs to. I don't know what I am doing wrong? I have Flawless Royal gems in every socket. I have focused primarily on her primary attribute, attack speed, and crit damage. I have a mixture of two sets, receiving 2 bonuses from each. In fact, here is my exact set up...

Attack- 1621k
Armor- 9687k
Vitality- 1202k
Str - 77
Dex - 77
Int - 14.5k

Firebird's first two bonuses

Can someone, for the love of God, tell me what I am doing wrong. I am getting my ass handed to me on T5 and above. Is it just a matter of paragon? Is my build really that jacked up? I have no clue on how to get my DPS up.
*Note: I am extremely new to making builds. Though I have played Diablo for years, It's only within the past week I have cared about builds and paragon.
Collect pieces from one set Don't just have a mish mash of a bunch of different ones. If you do that you can't optimize your skills or dmg output. I would suggest getting either a 6 piece of either DMO or firebirds. I would just look at one of the featured builds that are available on the site
You have two different sets but only have the 2 pc bonus from each. A lot of the damage of end game builds revolve around the set bonuses from teh 6pc which on average nets you a 2000% net gain to damage (on the specific skills). Most sets are set like this 2pc) utility 4pc) toughness modifications 6pc) raw damage output
I'll use the two set's you have as an example
Firebird's 2 pc is giving you utility through a free cheat death
Tal's 2pc is giving you utility with a meteor proc with an 8 sec internal cooldown per element
Firebird's is one of the few sets that differ when it comes to the 4pc as it doesn't add toughness but inturn adds more utility mixed with damage. I say utility as it directly affects the raw damage upgrade from the 6pc. Firebird 4pc adds a dot on each target you have done 3000% weapon damage to that doesn't disappear until they die.
Tals's 4pc gives you resistance to each element that you have gain a stack of up to a max of 4 (Arcane, Lightning, Cold, Fire) with an 8 sec duration
Firebird's 6pc takes the dot from the 4pc and gives you 25% damage increase PER MOB that is burning as well as when you apply your 4pc to an Elite, you gain a 600% damage increase.
Tal's 6pc gives you a 500% damage increase per stack of each element. Same mechanic as the 4pc but for damage not toughness.
As you can see, missing the set bonuses is a huge deal. Not to mention other complimentary legendary items that work with the build like Nilfur Boots for Tals that increase your meteors damage by up to 300% (You can see where that is nice to stack on top of the 2000% increase from your 6pc).
Makes sense. My reasoning for mix matching them was A) I can still call down elemental meteors B ) Etched Sigil uses resource spenders every second without spending resource, which procs the Tal Rasha bonus C) I was still able to get the 2nd bonus from the Firebird set which was the 3000% Burn. In theory, I thought it sounded awesome. I guess in practice, not so much. I tried the DMO, but just not a fan of melee wizards. No offense to those that use them, I just sort of enjoy the ranged elemental hell with the wizard. I guess I will try a full Firebird set. Thanks for the reply
I will have to look into that. I was using primarily slow time + spectral blades. My attack speed was nuts, but I missed the range capabilities. Wizard just felt too squishy to be getting into the middle of Elites. Again, this is probably causes I screwed that build up one way or another. Well, you live and learn. Thanks again for the advice.

The 4pc from Firebirds is worded weird. You have to read it. The burn affect doesn't apply until you have done 3000% weapon damage to the mob. Even then it doesn't increase your damage without the 6pc, it simply means they won't STOP burning but the rate of death will have no noticeable difference. Also, the 2pc from Tals is decent on low torments but drops off rather quickly without the 6pc and/or Nilfurs boots to augment it's damage.
At the moment DMO is the top spec both for group and solo play unless you are speed farming. The farming build consists of 6pc Tals with 4pc Firebirds. Look that the top build for wizards right now listed here on dfans. It's called a Flash Fire Wizard. Relies heavily on a Wand of Woh but definatly the first build you should aim for IMO due to once you get all of the pieces, your farming rate will triple and you will be able to farm your DMO build quicker by clearing rifts faster, getting shards faster, gambling for pants, and converting set items (the extra pants) into the remaining set items that you don't have using your cube.

Wizard relies heavily on the ring called Halo of Aralyes (I think I spelled that correctly) in combo with Ice Armor: Crystallize for survivability. In both Solo and Group DMO specs.

Seems I have my work cutout for me. I will check the build out and start farming for what I need. Thank both of you for the friendly and quick advice.
6p tals + 4p firebird is very nice. but you need to have a skill from each of the 4 elements. especially the Wand of Woh - explosive blast build is very strong.
but yea, for Grift progress DMO is king.
I'll get the pieces together and try it out. Thanks for the tip

you can do DMO twisters
