Hey guys, today I discuss the main differences between Diablo 3 and Grim Dawn, since I'm asked this a lot on stream. Both games are amazing in their own right and - in my opinion - are complimentary to each other. When you get bored with one, play the other. While Diablo 3 has amazing gameplay, some degree of competition, and a very standardized model (at least on PC), Grim Dawn has crazy itemization, a matrix of hero types you can create, offline play alongside multiplayer, is mod friendly and ... it's dark and gruesome! I also discuss the history of both games. Enjoy & discuss!
I like them both for what they are! I have supported Grim Dawn, but I wont really play it until the full version is out. I wanna enjoy the actual full game and not get burnt out from it before the rest is out. Haven't watched the vid yet, I will watch it soonish.

You won't get burned out as long as you don't play it all day every day ... but that goes for every game out there. Plus, there's some endgame content already available (reputation grinding), so you can get a 'head start', not to mention acquiring items that will be usable far far into the game. The itemization of Grim Dawn is very different from D3 in that you can still use well rolled level 20 gear at level 40 for example. Weapon damage range for instance doesn't scale that much, but damage modifiers do, so you can use a weapon you found 10 levels ago for a very long time. It's a pretty neat system, unlike in D3 where level 69 gear is useless at 70.
However....I'm curious about a comment you made in your vid above. You said "See these corpses hanging here (grim dawn). You won't ever see that in Diablo again".
Why would you say something like that?
Diablo 3 is littered with corpses in all manner of repose. Much of Act 2's ambiance is bent on the imprisonment, torture, and murder of villagers, showing their corpses strewn in ritualistic fashion, splayed open and eviscerated.
When we find the mystic in act 5, she is literally hiding under a pile of dead bodies in a room filled with hundreds of dispatched corpses in a state of rot.
The very first thing we see in the game when we walk into New Tristram is a cart filled with dead bodies being begrudgingly burned in a bonfire.
So why did you say that? What causes people to suspend the truth in order to make a point? Did you not notice the dead bodies strewn all over while spending thousands of hours playing D3?
I'm not attacking you here, I usually enjoy your content, but that comment was off-target sorely.
PS: Am I to assume the reason for your low, muffled voice in that vid was due to the crib I see behind you? It was hard to hear you at times. Thanks for the review of GD, I hadn't seen it in action yet.

I guess I didn't make the point correctly, but personally I completely overlook all the 'gore' in D3 based on the art style. It just doesn't look dark or scary to any degree. I've never had my heart race in D3, not a single time since beta. That's the point I'm trying to make, and that's the difference between the two. First time going into the kill room of Steps of Torment, seeing the camera shake and the skeletal gargantuans rise from beneath the ground - in an underground dungeon where it's hard to see as is - I almost crapped myself (especially when the doors behind me closed and there was no way out). D3 doesn't have that. Again, both are great games, but that was the comparison I was trying to make.

You clearly do not play HC.
I get what you're saying, and you didn't quite use the correct words. Diablo 3 lacks a gritty atmosphere, one we see in Grim Dawn and PoE. It's hard to put your finger on, but I believe the campy 'Saturday morning cartoon' narration betrayed any attempt at creating an immersive, gothic atmosphere.
RoS had a very different feel to me. The narration was improved greatly. Such a shame that they didn't use this same grit in fashioning the first 4 acts, as far as the story-line goes.

Grim Dawn looks cool, I may give it a try.
