Today I want to make a video giving my thoughts on the next patch update to 2.1 PTR. I talk about anti-3rd party precautions, the new 'lifesteal', build defining legendaries, Furnace/Rimeheart/greater rift portal changes (no more dual specs!), sustain vs. toughness balancing, a better pet gem, making melee classes competitive with ranged at higher rift tiers, massive barb and monk updates, undocumented changes, new build theorycrafting, and more. Enjoy!
I saw the video and you were saying that some builds might only have resource generators because of how strong some might hit. Did you consider that having only resource generators might be a bad thing? You might not be able to benefit from the increased life per resource spent which you called life steal.
Now that might not matter in some cases like weapon throw or punish with angel hair braid, but it was just a thought I had.
Thanks, watched the whole thing. I've been avoiding PTR play, I want the experience to be fresh. We should be getting close to launch, so I figured it was time to start learning a bit about what's going on in PTR. Great review that really got me fired up.
This should be the final push D3 needs to convince (most) core fans that RoS is a legitimate follow-up for LoD.

You will love it. I have a hard time going back to regular D3 after spending time on the PTR (I play a 2H barb). Even the small things I miss, like "salvage all" for rares, uncommons, and normal items. And I really do enjoy running greater rifts as well. So much so that running a regular rift to get another GRift shard feels like a chore.
I don't know if they'll change the droprates when it goes live, but I've gotten 3+ legendaries on GRift guardians on multiple occasions. In fact not having at least one legendary drop off of a GRG feels very out of the ordinary.

Unless I'm mistaken, drop rates in PTR are always heavily inflated in order to get these items into circulation so they can be tested.

The life per resource spent is a consideration, but there are ways around that (like CDR stacking for spamming heal spells, etc). We'll have to see how it plays out, but I can definitely see some builds that are primarily generators with high cost spenders as resource dumps (like Boulder Toss).

I don't think we're close to launch at all. Some will disagree, but I think September will be the earliest we get 2.1. October wouldn't surprise me.

As for drop rates, yes they are generally inflated for PTR. I think the legendary drop rate at the RG is not inflated though. Think about how many legendaries you get per average T6 run - at least a couple on average. So it would make sense for a T6+ greater rift to drop the same. I think the legendary GEM drop rate IS boosted though, as I've found a gem EVERY time I completed a greater rift until I had them all, no matter the tier.

That boulder toss build sounds crazy with the call of the ancients fury rune and the IK set.

I'd consider September to be close. I'm 42 so.....I'm like old or whatever. Time flies when your balls hang between your knees.
