I posted this in the official forums and wanted to share this idea:
As we can probably agree the current trend in Diablo is that it is getting way too difficult to find decent items that are AH worthy on your average run while item price disparity is becoming huge.
This has the negative effect of detracting from the enjoyment of this game as the game is designed around hte loot fest.
I came up with this idea which might have been suggested before but could not find it anywhere on my searches:
A soft item bind system that affects when players equip items to their character or account which makes the item untradable in the AH.
This bind can easily be removed from an NPC for a fee (or no fee) but it will have the effect of diminishing every stat on the item by a small value, lets say 5% or 10%
What this causes is:
- Items in the game will slowly lose value the more they get traded, thus this will lessen speculation and arbitrary inflation
- The supply of good items will be replenished with newly found items, rather than just increasing the pool of current items and making finding "good" items more and more difficult
- It will not have negative effects on the first person who found the item
I know item binding is a delicate topic but as of now we can agree that the current system is not sustainable in the long run, a day will come when the chance of finding a sellable item is so slim that it will be pointless to farm at all.
I think that decreasing the supply of genuinely high end items by nerfing stats as items are traded will flood the mid level inferno gear market even more horribly than it is and will exasperate the price gap between "good" items and "the best" items rather than lower it. If you close the performance delta between the very best items and the average items such that high end performance could be attained from a much wider spectrum of stat rolls then you might see an increase in interest and demand for those items.
