I have read many posts about MF. It was always my understanding that MF gear does not directly effect the stats on an item. It only effects the ilvl of the item dropped. e.g. You'll have a better chance of getting higher ilvl gear but the rolls on the stats have nothing to do with MF %.
Then I read the post with the Blizzard guide about MF and this part got my attention:
"Magic find affects the quality of items you acquire from killing enemies (but not treasure chests, vases, weapon racks, or other environmental objects). It doesn’t give you a chance to get more items on a given kill – instead, it increases the chance that an item you find will be magical, and more potent than it would be otherwise"
The way I'm reading that undertlined comment is that MF gear DOES effect the stat rolls on items. Can someone clearify this for me please?

Yeah, MF affects whether the rare item will have 4, 5 or 6 different affix rolls, obviously the 6 affix ones being the rarest
ok so it doesn't effect each stat roll though? For instance if an item dropped with STR on it. If I had MF on would the STR stats itself have a chance of being more potent then without he MF.
My apologies for sounding dense on this subject I just be to be absolutely sure about this.

Thats partly wrong to start with. MF increases the quality of the loot that drops, not the ilvl.

MF gear gives you the chance to get more rolls on an item, but it does not guarantee that the rolls will be useful or that they will roll better. The only plus side is, the more rolls you get, the higher the chance of getting an upgrade for yourself, or finding a good item to sell.
Guess I replied a bit to soon. This answered my question. thanks!
The problem is that in the context of Diablo, 'quality' is a technical term that refers directly to the color of an item. It doesn't refer to a more general sense of how good an item is.
Although I wish it did. It'd be cool if MF nudged the rolls higher rather than just giving you a higher number of worthless yellows.
