My first thoughts about what class id play first were that i should pick the barb, because it would be easyer to gear, because youd need a hard hitting weapon and your set. So id start a barb use him to collect wiz gear and start a wiz.. but if respecs are in d3 that would mean i would not need to stick with a build that was mainly built around not having the gear, ie +skills and HP gear..
The barb in d2 was very easy to build up as a first char. with nothing more then a mace and stam stack, then hed be able to farm enough bosses to collect gear and start building a new class.
So are respecs in confirmed,"confirmed as much as anything can be anyway"?
and if so would the strat I explained even be worth the effort or would it be a better idea to build a wiz around little to no gear and respec later,
i wouldnt link your experiences from d2 on which classes were easier to level to d3; just choose the one you think would be most fun. Respecing will be avalable, repeatable, and probably easy to repeat after youve done whatever is required for your first time respec. Cant find the confirmation but its fairly old news.
Like lowl said, the first time you play D3, play to have fun! Pick the class and the spec you enjoy the most and just have fun. you'll have years to min/max builds, but you're only once going to play the game for the first time! And yeah, there will be respecs.
Speaking o the respec, it is in D3 but we have no idea how it functions yet. All we do know is it won't be a total reset at once. Bashiok has said it would probably be quicker/easier just to restart a character.

Well technically you could hit yourself in the head hard enough to give yourself amnesia. You could play it for the first time again, and again. You probably wouldn't improve much but it would be hell fun.
Jay Wilson: We will have respecs. We haven’t determined the mechanism yet, but we’re definitely trying to do something different than a wholesale pay a token price and get all your skills back. We want to have a higher price than that.
According to Bashiok:
For Diablo III we don’t have it really nailed down yet but some of the main points we do want to hit are that it’s more than just a gold cost for changing your mind. Although that will be a major component of it. That it’s targeted for specific skills so you’re not resetting your entire skill tree, but you’re able to target specific skills to reset those ones specifically. To also scale the cost of respecing so early on in the game it’s cheaper and easier to respec and as you go farther into the game it will be harder and more expensive.
And all of those things together make it a very challenging system to implement, hitting all of those notes. And those are all pie in the sky, I guess, hopefuls for the respec system we may not get all of them in. We don’t have any specifics on what the actual respec system will have but those are sort of what we’re shooting for and of course it’s all up in the air still.
TL:DR -- Yes, respec is confirmed; however, it is yet unknown as to what it will cost and how it will function. As of now, respec will work on a per-skill basis, NOT a full reset. Hope that helps =)
I like the notion of costly respecing, makes it possible to change your shit but not so much that you can use one character for every build reasonably.
