I'm thinking said item is a common (usless) that we could have an option to auto pick it up and sell it. It would save time and effort. Also for the Rares and unique items then would go directly into you're inventory to identify or hold on to.
I would love feed back on this idea, just theory crafting.
Well the cauldron of jordan is just one step more than this. If it were set up that way to where the grey items were auto-converted to gold when picked up then they may as well have all grey drops just be added to the initial gold drop from that mob.

I'm thinking were getting waaaaaay to lazy if we aren't even willing to pick up our drops and handle them appropriately.
Also who says theres going to be 'worthless greys' like in WOW? Even if there are non-magical grey items who says their worthless? Maybe if they do exist they can be broken down into crafting mats...

A fine idea, but I feel at that point we might as well have the game auto-fire our skills as we walk past monsters

I have tried auto-pick up and auto-sell in an aarp (a game very similar to diablo) and it worked very well there.. But Diablo is still a very different game and i don't think this belongs here. Or at least it didn't in D2 where you could socket items for runewords etc but then again D3 doesn't have runewords. I guess we will know how valuable greys become when D3 comes out ;]
Edit: Well, it didnt have auto-pick up, it just had auto-sell so you still had to manually pick up the items. But you could set the auto-sell to item tiers. For example; only greys, or Blues and below, green and below, yellow and below etc.

The same u can do in WoW with special addons, but still, as was mentioned above, what is the point of making grey items if u just sell it anyway? Better drop gold instead right away. Since Blizzard like to improve game mechanics with every next game i hope they will do smth with this one, instead of just allowing to autopick/sell items.

I don't like to many things being automated, they have already made it very easy when it comes to drops, show drops toggle, sell outside town etc... id like to have some stuff to do my self as well

but then i'm one of those conservatives that think auto-skill is lame.
