It's sad but the difference a furnace makes is soooo huge that it really is the best weapon for a Blizzard Wizards.
grats on the furnace
It's depressing my Sun Keeper and Firebird's Eye are just about as close to perfect as you'll find but they are easily out done by the mediocre Furnace.
Your Sun Keeper and Firebird's Eye are far superior to the Furnace. They are absolutely not outdone by a mediocre Furnace. Furnace is nice, don't get me wrong, but having Firebird's Eye gives you a) more balanced elite:elemental damage ratio and more gearing options. You can go with a SOJ instead of RORG, or Cindercoat.. or Magefist.. Or both.
I thought so to until I tried it, the dot from Firebird's is ticking for 10-15mil more with the furnace. Though to be honest previously I was running Cindercoat and I think the reduction in resource cost might be worth giving up the extra damage.
Previous to equipping the Furnace I had 95% fire damage and 72% elite damage , with Furnace it change to 55% fire damage and 92% elite damage, both sets using Strongarm bracers. The Sun Keeper version was Firebird's Helm, Shoulders, Hands, Pants, Feet and Source with Unity, SoJ and Cindercoat. The Furnace Version is Firebird's Helm, Shoulders, Hand, Chest, Pants, Feet with Unity and SoJ.
Oh I just remembered I'm running Pinpoint Barrier with the Furnace setup to keep my crit chance at 50%.
In answer to your edit my Sun Keeper setup ticks for around 100-105mil and the Furnace setup ticks for around 115-120mil, but it can get a little hard to tell since sometimes the ticks seem to go really weird skyrocketing up to 160mil++ on Rift Guardians and Ubers also I'm not entirely sure when or if Strongarm bracers are affecting the dots.
Your dots do not scale with attack speed, so unless your "sheet damage" (dmg, %fire dmg and some portion of %elite damage, hard to value) is roughly 20% higher with sun keeper + firebirds OH than it is with furnace you should switch, not taking toughness in to consideration. The short answer is that it's worth switching to furnace in almost every single case, the raw damage and lower attack speed of the furnace almost always outweighs the fire damage and potential added toughness of the 1h+oh combination.
Most people seem to forget about the lower attack speed on the furnace, which is the main reason to why furnace is superior to one-handers or for example a Maximus with both greater damage and fire damage.

What does the attack speed of the weapon have to do with anything?
The Furnace is better than Maximus because 50% elite damage is better than 20% fire damage.
Attack speed is indeed useless for this spec, but implying that 2 weapons with same damage range (not DPS) wield different results is just wrong.
Plenty of dots (to include the one from firebird) use the per hit damage to calculate dot damage, not sheet dps. So if two two-handers have the same sheet dps, but one is 1.1 and the other has 1.2 attacks a second then the dot will tick for about ~9% more damage.
In addition to the absoulutly ludicrous amount of elite dmg on the furnace (and the fact that it effectively has 5 primaries what with the elite dmg as a secondary attribute) the slower attack speed of the wep is what pushes it into best wep in the game for firebirds/jade

Entirely my bad, I was ofcourse referring to DPS and not damage range, as the same damage range would imply a Maximus with ~350 more DPS (ignoring %damage and %as modifiers) which is quite a huge amount. It does not change the fact that the attack speed of the weapon has a huge impact on the choice of weapon, especially when it comes to choosing between a 2h and a 1h+oh.
The Furnace
I'm currently using:
Which seems to working pretty well. Is it worth switching to the Furnace or wait till I somehow find a better rolled Furnace.
Thanks for the advice
grats on the furnace
i think not but, grats anyway!
