I've usually only ever used builds that have been suggested so I am kind of new at trying to come up with something more on my own and in doing so I have managed to bring up a couple of questions and here seems to be the best community to ask!
I was previously running with a Frost Orb build but I ended up with a legendary source Myken's Ball of Hate which made Electrocute bounce to enemies it has already hit so naturally I wanted to play with it a little.. after some playing with the item and Electrocute with Forked Lightning runed to it, something became clear.. I was having fun with lightning when at first I thought it would be the most unappealing damage type for me.
Going more into it I built a small build and started to tinker but I ended up switching my Electrocute rune to Lightning Blast which I assume has no added effect with my source since it is no longer a jumping spell but a straight forward blast now so I started playing with some more things and ended up switching to a Triumvirate for the straight Lightning damage but then I figured what the heck and crafted a bracer and neck with Lightning damage so now I am sitting at 32% Lightning Skill Damage.
- What weapons should I be looking out for? Thunderfury, etc etc.
- Should my passives be adjusted?
- Any other helpful advice for someone looking to be a little more advanced in class builds?
Yep, looks great. It's quite simple to answer your questions:
1) You can't look for weapons, you just have to take whatever drops for you. I want the Wand of Woh, but that's completely different from what you would use in your build. Sure, Thunderfury would be nice for your build but it's not like you can farm a specific legendary :-)
2) Nope, your build looks fine. You can always go for Illusionist if you want more Teleports, Glass Canon for lower Torment levels, Blur for higher Torment levels and so on - but right now this build looks totally viable. There are only few ways to mess up though (e.g., please don't spec Conflagrate with this build ;-))
3) The patch, and therefore the "new wizard", is one week old. People discover things every hour. No one can possibly Mister-Know-It-All at this point; if you invested some time yourself (and it seems like you did) you might just have as many insights as the majority of other people, and you know your preferences better than anyone else. That's the nice thing about 2.0.1... everyone's an expert, suddenly :-)
I love all these new builds, and all the new wizards. Welcome to DiabloFans!
Yeah, you lucked out nice on that belt.. it's a beast!
I'm pushing 42% lightning damage now though.. I sacrificed some sheet dps for it but I am doing more now then I was before overall. I tried to sub in meteor over Lightning Shield but I find the meteor is just heavily not a good blend for me, things just move through it or they dodge it way too easily.

With my build made out to be :

So I ask from here..

I am also playing lighting build, currently with code name GoT (God of Thunder)
http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/profile/ScareCrow-2497/hero/8287037
I have pretty nice DPS even without huge number on DMG, because:
+18% lighting dmg from head
+15% lighting dmg from belt
on top of that I have +14% meteor dmg from head and +13% electrocute dmg from belt and another +15% dmg electrocute on legs
And trust me, when I play i really feel like God of Thunder
