So I see a lot of builds running numbers on AP regen per second, but none addressing how faster casting speed affects that.
So, a 60AP meteor with 100% faster casting rate becomes 120AP per second. 200% and it is 180AP per second.
By the same token, Magic Missile at 100% and 200% should return 28 and 42AP per second respectively, or 38 and 57 per second with Prodigy. Oh yeah, taste the Meteors!
I am also assuming that the channel abilities will tick more times per second. Some have thought otherwise, but I don't see why it wouldn't. Of course, either way channeled abilities aren't my preference anyway.
Without doing too much math, the spells that seem to make the most of faster casting speed are low to mid range power consuming spells:
Main Actives
All Signature spells (Especially Magic Missile Gold Runed for 14AP per cast)
Arcane Orb
Energy Twister (Mmmm Trail of Destruction...)
Explosive Blast (Short Fuse for PBAOE goodness)
Meteor (Gold Runed to drop 3-4 meteors on the same spot at the same instant)
Channeled Abilities (Probably)
Support Actives
Storm Armor (Gold Runed -7 AP cost)
Diamond Skin (Gold Rune -14 AP cost for 5 seconds)
Slow Time (Alabaster Rune for 140% faster cast rate 10 seconds)
Familiar (Gold or Crimson depending on your power needs)
Basically, for 5 seconds your meteors cost as little as 18AP Gold, or 39 any other rune. Plus you cast them at 140% cast speed plus any other bonus from gear.
As such, you can drop anywhere from 3 to 6 meteor casts in 1s, or more if you have enough AP regen. Or pump out god knows how many energy twisters into the hordes of enemies.
This burst regens every 24 seconds, with smaller bursts while Diamond Skin and Slow Time are on cooldown.

Meteor - Any rune for mega burst
Magic Missile - Gold 14AP a hit
Storm Armor - Gold - 7AP a cast
Diamond Skin - Gold 5s of -14 AP a cast
Slow Time - Alabaster - 10s of 140% cast speed
Familiar - Gold/Red AP/+40% damage
Prodigy - More AP per MM cast, whether or not it hits
Arcane Dynamo - Big hits after spamming your AP back up
Evocation - Bursts come sooner
You could of course pick other main damage spells, but meteor and Obsidian Energy Twister seemed to be fun matches for it. Let me know what you think.
Actually a Magic Missile with indigo rune which casts 8 orbs per cast does 160-248 per cast (assuming all 8 hit). Having a faster cast with this would be crazy damage as it has zero AP requirement. its non stop spamming at its best.
Sure it probably only targets 1 mob at a time but again, with faster cast this would be amazing I think.

True, assuming those 8 missiles fire in a straight line.... otherwise it would not be as good as it could have been...
400% cast speed would have you hitting 640-992 a second base. I don't know how high the cast speed can go but with Indigo MM you could potentially have no downside to stacking cast speed.
Arcane Dynamo and Prodigy would shine even more as you fill up on mana every 5 seconds, drop 2-3 meteors immediately with the first doing +50% damage, and proceed back to holding down the trigger of your machine gun.

Alabaster Storm Armor(on crit 2-153 lightning damage to nearby enemy), stacked crit chance, Mirror Images that deal 70% of your damage(assuming they also get your cast speed).
Even without Indigo MM firing straight, that Alabaster Storm Armor with a high enough crit chance could be devastating. Plus dropping Indigo Meteor every 2-3 seconds.
Electrocute with Alabaster Forked Lightning could be the ultimate light show when coupled with Alabaster Storm armor and sufficient cast speed/crit chance.
