When I summon Gargantuan: Wrathful Protector he often stands next to an enemy without attacking him or will leave an enemy right next to him to chase an enemy further away. Another problem is if I cast Piranhas: Piranhado before I summon the Garg he will sometimes act like he cant see the enemies who are in the tornado but if I do it in the reverse order he can usually see them.
This shit AI and pathing is making me miss tons of damage on a summon that only lasts 15 seconds, is there anyway to deal with this or am I pretty much screwed?
Pretty much screwed, the terrible pet AI has been a complaint with D3 pretty much since release and it's the main thing that holds pet builds back. They get stuck on walls, go on random targets, act weird with multiple abilities, don't follow you... It's the main reason a lot of people run the poison pets because they have create an aoe around them meaning your less reliant on the pets AI.
It really is ridiculous, I mean the AI is below basic even if they just made the pet attack the target your cursor was over (or closest to) anything simple like that would be better than the current state they are in.
this usually happens when he cant reach the enemy, or the target is already surrounded by your other minions.
I doubt it. on more than one occasion I've waited for the rift boss to spawn, pop Wrathful Protector and Slam Dance. All this while my dogs and little psychos are somewhere else killing mobs or elite packs. So quite literally it's the boss with the garg right next to him standing and doing nothing. And yes, i do wait for the boss to be completely spawned before i pop him.
Iv'e started using Restless Giant instead coz i'am sick and tired of watching him just stand there like a retard looking at the sky and doing nothing for the whole duration of the summon. Even moving around doesn't really help.
This is indeed a big problem. I have no clue if this is intentional or not. In terms of dps what this great fucker can put out, it might be. Big, heavy and dumb as fu**.
But yes, I agree, it sucks. Summoning this guy for a rift boss and he's directly heading to some white mob off screen, doesn't seems to be optimal and really intentional by Blizzard. I haven't seen any blue post about this, but maybe we will get a statement for it some day.
What I have tried is to move a bit when he doesn't do anything. Moving and spirit walk "fixed" this for me quite often.
