Need tips for Inferno farming

  • #1
    Hello,

I have been 60 for a little while now and I'm happy with my class, but as always, improvements need to be made. I don't do anything super serious (Infernal Machine, Hardcore, etc), I just like to farm with people on Battle.Net and/or run alone. My budget is very, very small at the moment (gearing up GF's characters) but I am willing to farm for a lot of money if I have to.

What I'm looking for is an ideal build for my playstyle and gear type. I'll link my character so you can see what I'm working with.

    Thanks!

Wrote something, then scrapped it... I realized that I know nothing about Witch Doctors in Inferno :S

I can give you one tip: Work on your preferred follower. The only good follower item you have is the Scoundrel token , so I'm guessing you're using the Scoundrel. You can probably get a 900+ bow with similar stats cheap and don't you have some rings and an amulet lying around from farming? Crippling Shot is better than Poison Bolts if your Scoundrel has bad DPS. If he's having trouble staying alive, give him Vanish as well. Having a bad or even no follower as a ranged class can make Inferno difficult to solo IMO.

It looks like the only piece of gear that you have with crit hit chance is your helm. Critical hit chance + critical hit damage are the best way to boost your damage as a witch doctor. Rings, Amulets, bracers, Gloves, and Helm can all have crit chance, and you should aim to get it on every one of those peices. Rings, Amulets, and gloves can all have Crit damage as well, so try to get it there too.

I personally find that using soul harvest if you do not have spirit walk is not worth it, since you must bascially get into melee range of something in order to get a full stack. I would either pick up spirit walk too, or get rid of soul harvest for something else. Its hard to comment otherwise on your spec since there are many different combinations that work for different people and their own playstyles, you probably just need to try using different abilities and find what works for you.

Thanks for the tips! To be honest, I haven't used my followers in quite some time, but I guess now is the perfect time to get them up-to-date. I only kept the scoundrel around because of his funny dialogue and his AoE poison damage (to supplement my own).

About the crit damage/chance ... I have no excuse. I guess I got caught up in the survivability stats that I overlooked them.

It's very nice to run with a scoundrel with a
    Buriza-Do Kyanon

It has cold damage and also 5-15% to freeze on hit, very useful as the cold slows and both abilities apply to multishot.

Thank you! I will look around the AH for one.

Like the others said, start looking for crit chance and crit damage.

Before, I had stacked INT and I had decent weapon damage and yet my damage wouldn't go over 25k and
I felt stuck. So I invested in crit (now I have abot 20% chance and 400% damage) and the damage bumped to 55k.

If you like seeing big damage in your character screen then crit chance is what you want. I am running 4 piece Zuni
though the helm has no crit chance. If I swap it with Andariel's Visage my damage goes up 8k!

    Gear suggestion: a cheap Skorn.
Can't post URLs but I got a cheap one with "undesirable" bonus attributes for 2.5m
They always come with a socket and crit damage so It shouldn't be hard to get 200%+ crit damage from the weapon alone.
