Poison Cold Fire and Physical are the 4 Natural elements that Witch Doctors have access to. My question is:
Is there any way a Witch Doctor can put out Arcane element damage that would trigger things such as, "Each time you deal Arcane Damage, such and such takes place"?
The reason I ask is, you can do that with Holy, you can do that with Lightning both through weapon proc damage.
But can you do it with Arcane? Anything in the game (weapon, ring, neck, anything?) that can proc Arcane damage type?
There's absolutely no reason to use arcane on a WD. Keep in mind while weapon damage type can proc some things, the actual damage type is dependent on the rune of the skill used.
I just saw a post in the WD build section that was theorycrafting around tal rasha set. Probably has something to do with this question
As a reply, at least in the past, your follower is able to proc tal rasha. And the enchantress has arcane skills
You actually just saw "my" post in the WD build section that was theorycrafting Tal Rasha set. The 6pc, if I could find an Arcane Proc type of damage, would equate to roughly 27,256,355 damage Haunt ticks. Add in Crit Damage modifiers, add in Elemental Damage Modifiers, add in other unseen modifiers and you are around 200 million damage Haunt ticks. Now add in Jade Harvester's 2set bonus and you are looking at billions of damage Haunt from every cast after the first. Coupled with Resentful Spirits and Haunting Girdle and you are wrecking 3 targets for billions of damage incredibly fast (obviouslyl building in attack speed).
Will it work? I don't know, I just thought of it one night after seeing my wifes TR Meteors destroying ....... everything. I didn't actually want to put it up because I wanted to test it first but my wife asked me to throw it up there so a friend of hers could see it. It's completely unfinished and is still in the process of being tweaked but, the armor is almost 100% the way I want to build it.
Anyways, I didn't even think about the Enchantress. Duh.
I'm not sure if this is really the way to go. I don't think WD has either arcare or lightning. While I think the enchantress would proc the arcane meteor, and a lightning damage roll on your weapon (you can even put that on enchantress, so she procs lightning and arcane :p) would proc the lightning meteor, I'm pretty sure it won't proc the 4 and 6 piece of the set. (2 piece set says "damaging with X" vs 4 and 6 piece saying "attacks dealing X").
Then again, you can proc 3 meteors (fire and cold skill, lightning or arcane on weapon, 4 with a follower) every 8 seconds, and get 2 stacks of the 6 piece bonus, turning your damage x4. On top of that, you always have high cold and fire res
Not sure if pets would proc the 4 and 6 piece of the set, if they do, this might be a potential setup.
In there, I also explain a shift to poison darts as an option. Not sure about jade. Since I heard the set is bad, I did not look into that If you really want to push it, you can add jade shoulders and helm (or zuni helm and another jade piece), for that additional bonus
It might not "be the way to go." That's not the point though. The point is to build something that noone else has done for whatever reasons they have for not doing it. For you, you decided that since you heard the Jade set was bad, you didn't even look into it. I am one of those folks that do not really listen to another persons opinion. I figure things out for myself by testing. Unless of course that opinion could lead to potential 'irl' death, then I'll give it consideration rofl.
As far as the stacks for TR go, even at 300% additional damage from the JH 2pc bonus, that is going to be brutal. If you could look at my profile of my WD and see what she is currently wearing (far, FAR from what I want her to be in) I already pull close to 90 million damage Haunt procs from the 2pc. For you hardcores out there, that sounds incredibly low, but for T6, 90 million damage every single second (not crits btw) is significant. And I am only farming T6 and mid 20's GRifts atm. Only started again at D3 a week and 3 days ago.
I will not be giving up Quetzalcoatl. It's what makes JH 2pc hit so hard. JH 2pc doesn't count 10 seconds worth based on the base damage of Haunt. It modifies the actual damage that is happening at the time. With Quetzacoatl it is no longer 10 seconds worth of an "over 12 seconds" spell. Instead it takes the full damage of Haunt and adds another 4 seconds worth of damage on top of it. If you don't believe that, test it, like I did. Haunt proc without Quetzalcoatl using a near identical damage helm and Haunt proc with Quetzalcoatl. With is significantly higher...... significantly.
You are pretty sure it won't proc the 4 and 6pc of the set. You are pretty sure but you aren't 100% sure. That is where people like me come in. I am going to find out. I am going to prove or disprove it with 100% certainty.
Shifting to poison darts isn't an option either. The damage comes from 100% uptime on Haunt spam. That's the whole point of this set theorycraft. To produce the highest damage from the highest unmodified damage spell in the entire world of Diablo 3. The only thing that trumps this ability is a Rune on an ability that requires the target to die before proc'ing (which is going to do nothing for you on a single target.)
As I mentioned, this isn't a for sure thing, it is a thing that I became interested in and am going to test. I am playing every day a few hours but the pieces aren't wanting to drop for me to well... RNG right? This process will take as long as RNG requires.
hmm... interesting thought... though i don't think there is any way to proc arcane damage, unfortunately... it doesn't go based on follower damage otherwise i'd say use the enchantress.. i was gonna say maybe the tormentor because it has a charm chance on it, but i don't know if that is technically a kind of damage.... think that's a bust, no way to use arcane on a WD
I like to theorycraft and come up with weird ideas, that's why I'm responding in this topic in the first place.
The "not the way to go" part was pointing to the fact that I *think* you wont be able to proc the lightning and arcane 6pc of the set, even with that damage type on weapon. I hope you get to test it and show it does. As I pointed out after that, even with only 2 stacks, it still multiplies your damage by 4, not a bad result. (if you compare that with 6 piece zuni, it looks way better)
When I said I did not look into the jade set, this is true. However, again somehow misinformation/misinterpretation. As you wanted to go high dps (stacking the buff) I expected you were building around high grifts, not T6. And since I'm not playing WD this season (after changes) I did not look into the jade, as people say it is not viable. I try to get general information about all classes, and test things on the classes I play. So don't get me wrong, if I was playing WD, I would look into it, and I suggest you do the same.
I do get that haunt (with jade, quetzalcoatl and passive) can put out high amount of damage. However, this is mainly single target. With the rune and items you can make it a bit more AOE, but it's still not that strong for groups I think. Again, test it and provide feedback please
For the procs, I'm indeed not 100% sure, but I did not notice the procs on my wizard. Then again, so many procs going on all the time, and not always paying attention, just keeping track the 4 buff is up, trying to cycle right with my arcane power and the buff of the convention ring, ... Let me know if it does, would open up some more possibilities for my wiz as well
As for shifting to poison darts, as I said before, I thought you were trying to go for high grifts. Seeing the poison dart build is 1 of the top builds, I offered that as an option. Also, if you go through the trouble of collecting a tal rasha set on a WD, and your haunt build would not work out as you expected, it might be a nice fallback. Not saying it will fail, but in case it does, don't give up on the tal rasha WD without exploring other possibilities
Oh, and while I think about it, if you don't need a special weapon (like smk or dod), you can work in all the (meteor) procs. Something like sky splitter or thunderfury or odyn son where you roll arcane damage on, or any arcane damage weapon with wreath of lightning
Please try out as much as you can, and report back with results, a I really think there might be someting in this (if anything, a high fun factor). All my suggestions are done on how I read and calculate stuff, I did not try it out (don't have a WD at the moment), so while they are offered as information, things to think about, to give you ideas, ... they are just a brainstorm, and I'm in no way trying to push you in some direction
Happy testing, good luck finding items, good luck finding the next OP build, and plz report back
Just tried on my wizard: enchantress arcane skill does not proc arcane meteor (nor stack). Fire damage on weapon, only using lightning skill, does not proc fire meteor (or stack), same with cold. Did not have arcane or lightning, but it seems to not work anymore.
Did some more testing, moved the tal rasha set on my monk, and it says "wizard only". Hoping for a bug, I did try it, and none of the set bonus get triggered (as expected by the "wizard only" part).
Sadly, we will have to let this idea go, as it does not work.
