I'm a little light on resists at 790, but high on DPS 32K buffed, 1000+ LoH and 40K HP. I'm using Thunderclap, Cyclone, all the other standards and Hard Target. I've gotten him down to 50% kiting him around as I go down to 25% health but by then the room seems filled with poison. I'm pretty sure this is more a matter of technique rather than gear or DPS. I also am not sure than shielding up and using all the defensive skills would work.
You just have to kite him, and use absolutely all the space in the room to put poison in. The clouds will disappear eventually. (Usually after 1 round around the room, if you kite correctly).
I got him to 20%, but my DPS is too low, so he "enrages" and start spewing poison like crazy.
You only have to just move enough to be outside the poison cloud, that way most of the cloud that he spawms on himself will be overlaying the old cloud from you, while the cloud on your spot is 30-60% inside the old cloud aswell. This way you can just keep on kiting him around the outter edges of his room.
Use Serenity semi-offensively to stay inside a cloud for a little while. Alltho you really shouldn't run into enrage issues with 32k dps.
I have made at least 50 attempts at him with no progress past the 50% mark. I've tried every skill and mantra combination including those that give me DPS or armor or resists or slow him. I've tried the Mystic Ally. I've even swapped out DPS gems for Vitality and attempted him with 44K HP and 24K DPS. I've attacked him head on, I've sidled around to start, I've even stood still and let him come to me. I've kited him through the middle, clockwise and counter-clockwise. I've tried slamming him til I'm almost dead, and tried tapping him and moving a few yards at a time. By the 10th try in any encounter, I can usually figure out the strat and get my rhythm to know it's just a matter of time. But not this guy!
I'll wait for a good video and in the meantime, I'm rolling a wizard.
Ghom is totally pain in the ass for monk today. It's all about kiting, position, and avoiding gas. I use DR foresight and SW fire storms, when he does the gas, I run to the very edge of green and make sure he is in SW range and hit him with DR. With MoH times in need, my resists were up to 1k when I killed him a week ago.
I can imagine putting a crap load of resist, AS, and LoH and just facetank him all the way. I said it because there was one time my fight went wrong, the whole room was filled with gas and he was to like 18%. I had no choice but to tank him, used all my cooldowns and barely killed him. I had around 1k resists, 1.2k LoH, and around 1.7 AS.
I killed him with my monk with only 18k dps, 22k hp 590 resists 7.1k armor ~800 LoH 2.8% lifesteal. took quite a few tries, but you can kite him in circles on the outer edge of the room w/o the entire room filling with gas. I made about 2 complete circles before he died. The gas cloud should disappear about 5-10~ secs after you circle around and see the start again. If not you are moving him too much when kiting him, so just slow down kiting him and it should be fine.I kited him counter-clockwise from starting position(doesn't matter which way) but when you do this the gas cloud at start should be gone by the time you reach the bottom left corner of the map.
I used FoT:TC, Heal:wrath , SW:cyclone, Overawe, Serenity, and blind. It isn't too bad once you get used to kiting him. Use serenity to move him to a good spot if you need to.
I found him easier with shield, it isn't much of a dps loss when you have a crit shield with dex on it. I found DR too slow for LoH procs when I was doing it with only 22k hp.
i m at 28k unbuff dps, 650 resist, 22k hp, 500 loh, killed him after like 10 attempts just last night, i was watching for my NV timer, maybe after 15 minutes of attempting and wiping, on the first few tries, it might seem impossible to beat, u just gotta always fight him near his cloud so u can maximize the area in the room available for u to kite
when u can dps him on the edge of the poison cloud without taking any dmg, just use blinding flash to prevent him casting more cloud and maximize ur dps for 3 second, and then when cloud spawn on u, serenity and dps more inside the cloud, be ready to run out 1 second before serenity ends, and dont kite too far away, just enough so that u dont take any damage from the current poison cloud
I have over 1200 resists to all and 20k damage and I can't seem to get this guy down. I have tried kiting him and everything else, I just don't see where I'll overcome this one right now. I may need to up my damage more. I have no problem doing this on barb currently. Leap saves me every time if I get to far in.
I would say with your DPS, OP, there's definitely an issue with your kiting strategy. I could get him down to 25% through kiting using standard abilities and Mantra of Conviction (Overawe) with only 10.5k unbuffed dps. Like others have said, just kite him the minimum amount required to stay out of poison and wait until he lays the next cloud on top of you. With a little LoH and Breath of Heaven/Serenity, you can even stand in the clouds for a few seconds to keep as much dps uptime as possible. Crit/Crit damage will probably be more effective for total damage dealt as you're only hitting him for 4-6 seconds at at time typically.
However, I just posted a thread on the battle.net forums with an alternative strat (also mentioned above) using tons of LoH, DW, and just standing in the poison and tanking him. Requires very little dps.

But, hey, you guys are the experts!
