Ghom is a gear check. You should be able to down him normally with around 40-50k dps w/o sharpshooter if you are careful in how you move and how you control the smokes in the room. There are also some people out there who buy a bunch of resists/LOH gear and just tank him with crappy dps but win the fight through attrition.
If you don't want to go that route, you just have to be careful how you fight him. Your normal instinct would be to keep as much distance from ghom as possible but this will get you killed since the more you move the more real estate you waste since that will spread the gas everywhere. Slowly walk him around the room and and stand next to his previous smokes to force the smokes to overlap as much as possible. Also, keep him inside the smoke himself as much as possible so when he smokes himself, this also overlaps. You should be able to time the smokes and know when to get close to an existing smoke, since he will throw it on you right after he spawns the slimes.
Another alternative is to do it with a tank. Have the tank take him to a corner and throw hungering arrows at him from the opposite corner. If you are far enough away, he won't smoke you.
Or just spend a few hundred k on tank gear and do what this guy did.
The style in which you said to fight him might be the key for me, cuz when he'd smoke, I'd go clear to the next corner, and by the time I needed to go back to the original area the whole room was filled.
As far as gear I don't compare to you guys, I'm trying to balance it out but need a good 10k more health for my style.
Dex: 1770 or so maybe 1800 now have to check.
dps: 43000
Health: 32k
Crit: 41% w/Scoundrel
All Resist: 209 ( I don't know what I should be aiming for, I heard 350ish.
Crit Damage: 100%, I want more but haven't starting shopping it yet, all descent price gear with it has no health benefits to it, and my weapon (actually farmed item) has no slot or Crit Damage
Weapon:
1149 dps
APS 1.1
197 Dex
490 LoH
and some other trash stats
I would try the LoH builds but it seems to get more besides your weapon you'd have to sacrifice WAY too much on other stats
i think you should be able to do him with your dps. I took off half my gear including my nats boots to break the 4 piece bonus to see if i could kill him and pulled it off with 50k dps or so. It should be pretty easy to just kite him slowly around the room, since he moves so slowly in the first place. Run caltrops with torturous ground if you need more snares.
And btw, if you run a tank dh build to kill him, your dps WILL suck. The guy in that video only had 7k dps, but since ghom couldn't kill him, his crappy dps didn't matter since he could just tank him and slowly beat him through attrition. If you're trying to get pass ghom for progression purposes, it's worth giving it a look.
Long time lurker but first time poster. As I'm running at 123k dps without SS with my 4 set and 32k hp I can confirm with Lucidity that running HA with Spray and Cluster Arrow (Cluster Bombs) totally destroys everything in my act 3 Cydea/Azmo runs. I used to run with Evasive (CF) along with Impale (Grievous) since I have a 10% Evasive bonus on my Nats chest. I was sceptical at first about HA coupled with Cluster, but after trying it I was amazed....
It could also be a playstyle thing as you said Lerissa, as I felt too that it was the smoothest of the builds that I've used thusfar. That was until I tried out the HA/Cluster combo and it lowered my run time by about 10-15%. Normally I stack up 5 stacks first before heading into the tower (other runs just feels to short and not having a 5 stack on Cydea kinda makes me feel ripped-off in a sense).
- Scenario in which you are fighting 1 and only 1 mob, where single target dps would be optimal, is vastly outnumbered by the scenario in which you will fight 2 mobs, 3 mobs, 4 mobs, or more.
- spray is bar none the best generator for multi mob scenarios.
- spray is also not a slouch when it comes to single target Scenarios.
- the only thing that the other hungering runes have over spray is in single target scenarios, but since such scenarios are so scarce, they should not be emphasized.
- Since spray does aoe damage better than any other generator (and since multi mob scenarios are far more common than single mob scenarios), yet still does respectably well in single mob scenarios, it is op in respect to other hatred generators.
This isn't difficult, and I've even boiled it down to talking points like you prefer. You can either ignore the thread, admit you're wrong, or disprove something I've said. Nonsensical "key words" without support or reasoning is of little use. If you really are sick of arguing, I'd suggest you take option 1.
Seems these glass cannon specs have no chance against Ghom, even if you did SS w/Gloom, you don't have enough Health pool to benefit from it
So how you guys downing him?

Cluster bombs says hello.
I can kill him before the room gets even half full of gas.
