I'm trying to do a grift lvl 50 solo for the season journey, I'm a barb and so far I ha been running a hota build, which does great in groups but for solo, I can't take a hit worth a damn. So after looking on youtube I saw plenty of barbs doing grifts 60+ with ww. So even tho I tried a ww build before and found it lacking, I gave it a shot again now that I have higher lvl gems.
But I am clearly doing something wrong since I have all the trouble in the world finishing a simple Rift on TX...
I got the complete waste set, 2-3 pieces ancients, I got bul kathos children altho none of them ancient so i'm missing some damage there but I have bane of the striken lvl 50, pain enhancer lvl 50 and bane of the trapped lvl 62.
I'm using furnace, skull grasp and I forgot the other... but anywho the point is, I die even faster than when i'm using my Hota build, so what gives... I see those barbs in the videos barely taking damage and me when I ww through the mob, they hit me like a truck and take forever to freakin die...
So if anyone feels like helping out, telling me what the hell im doing wrong, add me or something, ill show you exactly how this is not working for me and maybe you can point me in the right direction from there, thx.
For start, regarding legendary gems, for Whirlwind build you need:
- [Mandatory]Taeguk
- [Mandatory]Pain Enhancer
- [Optional]Bane of the stricken - somewhat fine, but works rly nice only on RG.
- [Optional]Bane of the trapped - for overall more consistent damage.
Ditch the Skull Grasp from Kanai Cube, the dmg increase is next to non-existant on Dust Devils spawned via Wasteset.
Also, for cube I personaly go:
- Convention of Elements
- Hexing pants of Mr. Yan
- Furnace (worth mentioning that I had notable results with Stalgards Decimator too in lower GRs (up to 50-55))
Bracers switch to Strongarms, to proc with Furious Charge (Merciless Assaultrune, for cd reduction while charging into the clusterfuck to start spinning, or to charge out if tons of effects stack underneath your feet).
Change Battlerage to Bloodshed, Warcryto Veterans warning, Whirlwindto Blood Funnel and tru to get some physical dmg on amulet/bracers.
I personaly like Ignore Pain with Bravadorune, cause it lets me proc Strongarms.
That should cover the itemization/skills.
Oh yess, passives... you need Ruthlessand Rampage. At least Rampage, it's a must!
Looking at your bnet profile and skills, I'd say:
- Ruthless
- Rampage
- Nerves of Steel
- Boon of Bul-Kathos
Boon of Bul-Kathoswould be te only one subject to change, maybe Animosityor smth like that if survivability is questioned.
And as for playstyle, just stay in high density, charge regularly to keep Focus and Restraint proc up, and Ignore Pain when things go rough (i like to keep it for moments like freeze/jailer), and don't spend time on small groups. Just let 'em follow you untill you get a nice chokepoint.
Well damn, thx man, I will make sure to try this out today or tomorrow, kinda busy today. I'll let you know how this turns out. I might just be missing the strongarms bracers, i'm gonna have to farm them :/ Again thank you very much.
Well, i tried with that WW set up... I first did a 50 just to test it out, went actually really well, finish it easy with about 3 mins to spare. Then I tried a 60... the time was up when I was at 38% :/
Are ancient BK a must ? Because I still have regulars on both hands, never found ancient ones...
I dont know what guide youre talking about, but I tried my hota build, theres no way in hell I can do it with it... and I have no idea how people did it with hota build...
Me and a friend both went from 2/2BK and 6/6 wastes to 6/6 wastes 4/4 IK with focus/restraint and cubed a ring of royal grandeur.
I made a huge boost in survivability and also control while dps stayed about the same.
Whirlwind is still your main skill, but with 3 permanent ancients around boosting your rage you can easily keep up.
Just the attack speed is slower because of the lack of the bhul khatos weapons... but I find it a very viable alternative for the 6/6 waste + 2/2 BK set.
Now time to upgrade my weapon and drop my bracers for a good alternative..
I don't understand what you're saying, you made a 60 grift with the bonuses of the full waste and the 4th bonus of IK ?
This is getting so fuckin frustrating. I can't do the ww strat if i can't find a grift with those really big open areas, i keep getting those tigh ass corridors grifts, and even if I do get one of the good grifts, I don't even know if I can make it...
And that hota build ain't working neither, can't survive worth a god damn sht...
I'm trying this ik/rend build, so far it's the best I found, I got to 68% before timer ran out, but I have no luck with the density, always small packs, impossible to get a big population affected to get a huge time bonus.
Diamonds instead of rubies on pants (balance it out as you see fit)
Skills where as is
Passives where superstition, rampage, relentless and ruthless (nerves of steel, berserker rage, tough as nails and bloodthrist are all good candidates for 5th or replace those)
furnace | tasker and theo | unity in cube, stricken, taeguk and pain enhancer as gems
Bracers of the first men for wrists
Never stop to kill lingering enemies, always go for big groups, do a few charges to get them bleeding to buff your APS and your life recovery through life per fury spent on weapon and belt, use charge to move around and get away from dangerous things like arcane sentries, charging stuff and fiery/poisonous ground thingies. Hit the air to keep up wrath and ancients up and also passive recovery when you can't go in
Did it with less than 10 attempts (I tried it really sporadically, casual you might say), consistently finishing with 20 seconds up to 2 minutes overtime, bar one rift that were just jack shit and not worth giving a second look. Boss fights take 1 minute because stricken even with a death or two, less if you snapshot properly. 65+ WW is just far more consistent for the rift clear imho. But very much doable with hota.
So far the best I went was 80% complete before timer ran out and it was with seismic slam build. I think I can make it if I can luck out a good grift with big density and 1 or 2 pylons...
I saw a video of someone who did it with seismic slam, I have everything he has if not better gear wise, his gems are 1-2 higher than me. I think i'll keep tring with it.
Are you pushing and pulling aggressively? It's a must to make progress. Also don't stop to kill even dying elites unless they are around 10% HP, make them follow you and wither them down as you pull and kill thrash.

Hope I helped
This is my setup, but for speed T8 (lightning based): http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/profile/ch1zra-1866/hero/65232612
Bit of changes like I said and it can go up to 59-60, slow but steady.
//edit:
I am bored at work, so I colored it fancy
I mean you harm.

I currently lvling up my taeguk gem to 50, almost there then i'll try it out. I gotta be able to make a lvl 60 solo :/
for 60 you will need a bit different setup, look into chainers guide for solo barb, with spear etc.
I will go for 60 solo most likely with generator monk, seems easier somehow.
I mean you harm.
This one ?

p.s. I made 50 solo wimy hota barb, somehow...
yeah taht one should do it.
with a lot of fishing i guess.

^^ YAY!
Did my 60 with alkaizer rend/ww buuild: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcGzl3k52GE
had no unity, instead went CoE. Died a few times, RG took me eternity, but was cool overall.
I mean you harm.
I dont know what guide youre talking about, but I tried my hota build, theres no way in hell I can do it with it... and I have no idea how people did it with hota build...
click the youtube link, if you are replying to me

Hm, I honestly believe that there is typo somewhere in there.
but, maybe not, with IK weapon, belt and 1 more item (eg helm), you get waste slots with: shoulders, gloves, pants, boots, body.
combine that with RoRG and you get 4 IK, 6 Waste.
But you loose COE
But you get permazerk
I mean you harm.

yep, IK rend is amazing. while doing 60, which I had big trouble as ww, at some point I noticed that I am more than 50% ahead of time.
That compensated at boss though, even though I had ~3 minutes for him, I finished with some 20-30 sec remaining. Fury issues, big time.
but yeah, the dmg is real
I mean you harm.
I just did 60 with hota
