I never played D2 as much as I wanted to back in the day. When I played the most was before LOD came out so I'm basically a total newbie.
With my excitement level for D3 going through the roof, I am picking it up and going to try to be hard core from now till D3.
I'm about half way through hell on what I intend to be my first farming char. I am putting aside set pieces and plus skill items as I find them to give to my future builds.
My questions are.. how to spot socketed items? If I understand it correctly it can't be a magic item to make a runewords out of. So does this mean I need to be picking up every item to see if it has the right # of sockets?
Also, how do some of you LoD vets handle your mules? I have 4 so far and they already full. What are you general philosophies on what to keep and how to organize.
Same thing for gems and runes. Should my main goal be to upgrAde runes, get 3, corresponding gem, and then upgrade?
As far as builds.. my goal is to solo hell with as many chars as I can, and give them the best equipment I can till D3.
Whites cant be socketed. Grey items only. Whites are only good for being imbued and sold

If you want to arrange it
This world you can change it
If we could somehow make this
Christmas thing last
By helping a neighbor
Or even a stranger
And to know who needs help
You need only just ask
Thanks for those recipes!
One other thing I should have listed in my original questions, how does trading work?
For example, I found the Mace that belongs to the Immortal King set. How would I know how much (what level rune) I could get for it?
Hoping some one can answer this got a new question:
So I am making a second account to mule stuff two, is there any way to make sure the account passed the "48 hour test" before I start moving everything to it? I havnt been able to find a definite place to tell what counts as "play" towards the 2 hours. Does logging into a chat channle work? Staying Idle in a game? Is there any way to tell that the account is locked in?
My advice is uninstall diablo 2,
play something newer and cooler if you have the system requirements
like Magicka, or bloodline champions, or dungeon siege 2, those are much funner games ( actually i cant confirm dungeon siege 2)

Please try not to post links to other wikis that already have the same info because it is counter productive to our efforts.
"These combinations only work for Single Player, Open, or Ladder Characters."
What about TCP/IP, is it considered the same as one of these options?
I use gameranger.
