It's pretty clear that the changes scheduled for 1.05 will have a big impact on item prices in the game.
The question is, what will that impact be? I've been trying to think through that question as I'm planning to adjust gear for farming with MP.
Barbs are losing LOH effectiveness at low and mid-tier gear levels for double tornado builds. Will we see LOH items devalued? Will LS weapons go up in value?
Monks (and Wiz?) who have focused on high dps and life regen via pickup radius and +health from globes are going to need more LOH and LS. Does that balance demand with the Barb tornado nerf?
And the biggest change: Item affixes will now be based on monster level, which will be set at 63 for all monsters at MP1. What will that do to the value of any current(old) lvl 61 and 62 items people want to sell? It'll be dirt cheap I think as people try to dump it all on the AH and upgrade post launch.
Also, more people farming lvl 63 affixed items means better quality items on the AH in general, which may devalue even the good lvl 63 stuff people have to sell currently (pre-launch).
I'm thinking I should hold off on purchasing anything for now. What do you all think? Apart from clearing out your stash, is there anything you are doing to get ready for 1.05?
The mid-tier decreases in price, the top tier has higher stock causing a violent supply demand shift. The low tier disappears. Jewelry has some big changes coming, BiS legendaries increase as gold supply increases.
Survivability requirements for those looking to farm uber rings shift the top tier, else low tier max efficiency farming still exists as it does now.
Violent supply demand shift for top tier gear means decreases in price.
So we're looking at decrease prices across the board, with the exception of low tier gear which drops out completely, and BIS legendary items which will go up in price.
Why will gold supply increase? Just GF bonus for MP levels, or are you thinking something else too?

People are holding onto gold. People will buy gold. There will be an influx of player activity following a patch. People will want to try different things all requiring gold and they will get it and spend it.
There's a slight increase in gold find and farming efficiency on various difficulties.
Good call on the jewelry, they note lvl 63 monsters apply lvl 63 stats to items. I wonder if developers will spend the effort to limit jewelry to lvl62 stats. Hmm... break nat's set or no...

Eh? I was under the impression that higher ilvl loot and increase in quality thereof was worth more when selling to the vendor than lower ilvl loot? Given 95% or more if L60's will be playing ML1+ wouldn't that mean that the massive pile of crappy loot that drops for people will, on average, return a lot more gold post patch when being vendored?
This is not even taking into account the massive increase in gold find as Paragon levels increase on a character and the 25% GF each MP level introduces into the equasion.
I run around nearly GF capped with a full NV stack at a like 360% GF as it is now so my mind boggles at how much gold per hour that might be past patch :)_
If you want to do some high ML farming, I would look into buying some LS or LoH weapon now. You will have a few weeks to find a good deal, and less pressure than after the patch.
I know it's hard to predict, but wouldn't I be more likely to find good deals after the patch?
Gah with the doubled legendaries rate. Now do I sell off my entire gear set before it massively devalues then rebuy later? That is just depressing. About the only thing that I anticipate to retain its value are top-tier level 63 weapons with little to no competition from legendaries(as in not 2 handers because skorn dominates). Weapons must have high base damage to roll incredible dps and thus value while base armor is not nearly as big a deal and even less so in 1.0.5 damage reduction land.
Also I would say that LOH will continue to devalue while life steal will remain reasonable as it is tied to DPS. The interesting catch is that while people may find they are most efficient in MP 1-2 and require little in the way of survivability like LOH and LS, if they obtain enough DPS and decide to move up in MP then LOH and LS will be back on the table. So it really depends on how ambitious people are.

Now it seems AH is still in 104 price trend, nothing is going down to me. :/
