My only comparative point of reference would be from my experience playing WoW. Of course items and gold were dished out in a different way, and mats also. So I guess hoping that we would see a more balance market is silly. And perhaps people experiences unfair markets on their WoW servers, the one I was on (ner'zhul us) was usually pretty logical and fair with overpriced items being ignored and things stayed pretty consistent.
I guess I don't yet see the value in saving millions of gold to buy a single item.
I'm ranting. Man this game is making me depressed. 12 years wait and this was the result? SC2 and D3 have been so anti-climactic. /cry
Misleading thread title is misleading. Was expecting a serious discussion, got a rant. Whatever.
I expect the GAH to be suffering from high inflation after RMAH hits and botters got enough time to build up their niches. The volume of producable gold and the demand of gold are both higher than in WoW, which will be some sort of equilibrium but only in the sense between these two factors. Items like Stormshield where high demand is a given will probably be affected the most.
The universe trends towards entropy. This economy will find equilibrium when only a few thousand are playing it, which may happen sooner than we think.
In any case, gold-based prices are going to inflate rapidly much as real-money prices will deflate even more quickly.
Gold will trade at billions to a USD soon enough. Stopping the asian farmers is like trying to grab water in your fist.
honestly i think the gold AH will balance out eventually. I'm sure most of the best items will get pushed over to the RMAH as people try to make some money. As more and more people start to get currency either by actually loading their blizzard account with real money or just by earning it through sales on the RMAH more and more people will purchase items through the RMAH instead of the GAH. I kind of forsee the RMAH as being the SOJ equivalent for D3, of course i could be completely wrong and people won't even use it lol.
however, i'd be ignoring 2 very glaring facts of humanity. 1) there are many people who want to jump to the top without putting in any work. and 2) there are those that will take advantage of the people who think that way.
