My best memories with the diablo is when i was 6 year old was playing diablo demo for the first time entered the butcher room and he shout :fresh meat!! at the time I don't understand English yet so me and my brothers called the game fresh meat ^^ and this was a real scary guy yeah you can't play alone at night
The first time I saw this guy dies when my brother and my uncle killed him together one was using the potions the other attacking and when they finally killed him I was like OMG legendary feat
I'll begin then.. I think I was *taking up the calculator, ahem!* yeah now I remember, I was 14 years old :] and I remember that me, my best friend and his brother sat in the living room of his family with three computers. So we sat there for several hours and played Diablo 2 and the important part was, we got to share this experience together and it was just alot of fun! Crazy fun!
And my favorite class back then was Necromancer, that was me. So now, I just wait.. torture myself a bit.. hope to play Witch Doctor soon! :] But the wait is worth it for the new memories that will come and this time around I will be sharing this amazing game experience with my girlfriend.
So tell me, which memory do you remember the best from Diablo franchise? :]
Two words: Fresh meat.
I loved that early moment, encountering the butcher for the first time. I fought him for a bit, then ran away like a little girl. Then getting his awesome cleaver as a drop was cool too. That moment was when I was hooked on the franchise and have been ever since.
well if we're talking about first memorable moments it would be when I went to my friend's house to install Diablo [didn't install on my PC for some reason] and making a sorcerer and right clicking in town only to hear
'I can't cast that here'
after that there's just some vague bits and pieces of horror of running out of mana and not having any gold to buy pots. gave up, made a rogue and was baffled at how easier it was.
My memorable memory is actually the impact it had on me as a gamer. Until Diablo II, I played on console games and single player PC games (mostly RTS). D2 was the first online game I had played. I remember meeting people and befriending them as we ran Meph over and over. At that time, my parents had warned me that the internet was evil and everyone that wanted to talk to me was a rapist. D2 helped me get passed this stereotype and I made friends that I still talk to this day. I had friends from all over the world, It truly opened my eyes to the online gaming community. Now, I seriously don't touch a game unless it is a multiplayer online game. Single player games just don't do it for me anymore and I find myself quickly bored that I can not interact with other people. That is the memory I remember most
This is probably the same for most people. But adventuring through the church in Diablo 1 and then seeing blood all over this room. When you open the door all you hear is "Ahhhh fresh meat!" Then this scary Butcher comes out and slaughterers you right away. Probably the best memory for me for Diablo.
I had just started playing Diablo 2 because of a friend. I hadn't played Diablo 1, so I was noobing it up. I rolled a necromancer, did a few quests here and there and boom....I hit Tristram. I love that place. Which all my heart. The amount of farming I did there, ridiculous.
I'd have to say the best memory I remember with the Diablo franchise would have to be... well.. most of my early childhood. When I was 5, I was fascinated with watching my parents play Diablo 1 together. When I got my dad's old computer around the age of 7 or 8, playing Diablo (Starcraft, Duke Nukem 3D) was the only thing I would do.
Playing Diablo, isn't just a fond memory from Diablo, but more one of the fondest memories that I can remember. Coming home from after school on a weekend, inviting my cousin over and playing Diablo over LAN all day was the best thing.
And I still hum the tristram theme, even 10 years later.
From the Diablo franchise, however, I would have to say just "AH FRESH MEAT".
Diablo 1: (I think I was 7-9 years old)
1. The Butcher story and first time meeting him.
2. Zooming in just to see the succubus' boobs.
3. Insert gemstone into forehead
Diablo 2:
1. The loots
2. Duriel
3. My Dad breaking the CDs in half
I remember in Diablo 1 single player just figuring out that I could duplicate items by hiding them behind a town portal, then walking through the portal while picking up the item simultaneously. Duped! I was super stoked, I showed my mom. Yes I was pretty young.
Also I was legit scared of the Skeleton King. Like my stress level went through the roof every time I ran into him, because remember he was in a random location on the 3rd level of the dungeon. You had no idea which door you opened would have Leoric!
Also, I can still pretty much quote word-for-word the guy outside of the sanctuary who was dying from the butcher. "Please Listen to me, The archbishop lazarus he led us down here to find the lost prince. ...."
Oh, and running the poison well quest a hundred times because the ring you get as a reward sold for like 2000g (if you remembered to identify it).
My first zodiac armor. It was like +17 to all stats. Nice!!!
Probably the first time I saw Uber Diablo, shortly after creating a game a few Sojs sold, and it said "Diablo Walks the Earth", I had no idea what it meant at the time. Found him at Blood Raven and he killed me almost immediately after I found him, I was floored.
I asked a friend to come kill him for me, he gave me the anni and it was a terrible one. :|
Yes walking into the butchers room and hearing "Ahh fresh meat" and then being brutally murder was just plain awesome. I assume I had similar experience to most. You clear at the first level of the cathedral no problem, clear out most of the second level and start to think that maybe this was going to be an easy game. Any thoughts of the game being easy disappeared after being slaughtered by the butcher.
I am going to say me second too (since I saw quite a few people say the butcher also), which was reading the manual. It had the story of the three brothers and their exile into sanctuary. It told of imprisoning the three, and Tal Rasha's sacrifice. In fact, more games need to get back to this. Instead of making me watch 10 mins of cut-scenes to set up and explain what is happening just but the lore in the manual so when I am ready to play I can just start playing.
Playing with a buddy. He's a pure mage, I'm a pure warrior.
Typing, talking to him, and scouting ahead in a maggots dungeon.
Suddenly, very far behind, he stops typing.
I open the map.
He walks three foots to one direction, four to another. And repeats. And repeats.
I look at his health. 100%, 60%, 30%. Full regen. 100%, 60%, 30%. Full regen.
100%, 60%, 30%. Full regen.
It smells bad...
I run as fast as I can to get there to find he completely swarmed by about 20 strong maggots.
WhirlwindWhirlwindWhirlwindWhirlwindWhirlwindWhirlwindWhirlwindWhirlwindWhirlwind!
I'm a hero!
We were talking about this last week. It's his best memory as well.
I remember my son, myself and a pub was running around playing D2 and went to kill Duriel. When we did kill him he dropped 5 TP scrolls and nothing else I was simply stunned and we all just tood there for a couple min in total amazment. Talking about what had just happened lol.
Now now, I just want to point this out that I hate what you're doing here...you're making me choose only ONE memory? Come on now, this is Diablo :). But if I had to choose, it would be when I was in 4th grade and I was so excited to get home and play for the first time (a little young I know). I started to make my way through the cathedral really scared and then all of a sudden, I open this room and..."FRESH MEAT". I'll tell ya, how often that got to me when I played through Diablo I is too many to count. When I look back at it now, he just looks goofy but still have to put that moment as one of my scariest video game moments of all time.
Mine was actually from Diablo 2 when I first entered nightmare mode. Throughout most of normal I was kicking ass and taking names, but I forgot that normal is the easiest difficulty. As soon as I stepped into nightmare I thought "jeez this is kind of difficult, but I'm sure I can power through it.
Walking around in the dark town of Tristram in Diablo I. Talking to some guys I used to play with, while Matt Ülmens music kept playing and playing in the background. It was awesome. Still better than Diablo II.
Hehe, I remember when I was around 9 or 10 playing diablo 2 on battle.net and someone had hosted a game offering free items.
All I had to do was download his program which would give me infinite free item. Young and horny for freebies as I was, I downloaded the program while still in his game and ran it.
Of course it was some sort of scam which took over my computer and opened my inventory to throw everything out and then shutting down the computer with a picture of a skull and bones like the jolly rogers flag. My brother which was in the same room got super pissed off because he knew I had installed some sort of virus on our family computer.
Ahh scumbags of the internet <3
Yeah. I remember that there were a lot of people passing programs like that around in the early days of d2.
Standing in town in D1 just to listen to the awesome music.
Getting D2 on the day of release and playing with 2 friends only to find that the game is quite bugged in multiplayer. We finished act 1 and saw our ass in the beginning of act 2. As soon as you leave the town you get one shotted by monsters. Turns out we were too low a level for act 2. God only knows how that happened seeing as how we did finish act 1.
Good times, pitty so few of my friends still game.
I was 11, i was in Catacombs. AND VERY SCARED OF MEETING THIS THING CALLED "ANDARIEL"
It took 8 skeletons, a golem, and 2 hours before i worked up the courage to go to level 4
Like many others who already posted in this thread, the first encounter with the Butcher in D1 is het first thing that comes to mind for me as well.
Another personal favorite was the moment my warrior killed Diablo without a weapon. After I maxed out my character's stats and gear, I started a new game and played from start to finish without using a weapon or spell. Since I was full stacked with unique armor and zodiac rings and amulet, it wasn't really a challenge for most of the game, but going into a boxing match with Diablo himself was pretty fun.
Biggest pain was getting insta-killed many times with my Diablo 2 barbarian by that pesky charged bolt / multishot combo some rare monsters had.
