Soon I will be writing a fan fiction about the Diablo 3 storyline. Yes, I realize nobody knows the storyline, that's what makes it so interesting! I've got a lot of neat ideas that I'd like to work into the story and I'd like to hear yours. However, what I'm most interested in getting out of this thread is your opinions on what bosses will be in Diablo 3. Please also suggest why you think they will be a boss, and which order the bosses will be fought.
P.S. If you like the idea of this fan fiction and you would like to read it we'll first need a fan fiction section on the forum. I suggested a Diablo fan fiction board and Daemaro seemed to want to give it a try. A poll was then made to determine whether or not we would get a Diablo fan fiction board. If you want to read my fan fiction please vote "Yes" on the poll found here: http://www.diablofans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18478
Well, I was hoping to hear some other opinions before speaking my own, but maybe by posting my thoughts it will stir the pot a bit and we'll hear some other ideas. F.Y.I. what I'm about to tell you is essentially the storyline that I will be using in my Diablo 3 fan fiction. Please be nice and don't write a fan fiction using these ideas. I did a lot of research and worked hard to come up with this story!
Overall scheme: Lilith realizes that with the Worldstone destroyed, humans will become more and more powerful with each generation. She decides now is the time to build her army and performs a dark summoning ritual from within Sanctuary to bring the 3 Prime Evils back (much like the Diablo 2 Pandemonium event) to find that somehow in the vortex of the Abyss their bodies merged to create a 3-headed Megademon. She had intended that they assist her in conquering Sanctuary, but after being revived the Megademon wanted to retake Hell from Belial and Azmodan. The Megademon enters Hell and banishes Belial and Azmodan to Sanctuary. Lucion understands that Lilith is weak from her ritual and tells her to find refuge somewhere to regain her strength while he stays behind to protect her. Azmodan and Belial understand the potential strength of the creatures of Sanctuary and begin building new armies so that they might retake Hell.
Act I Boss: Lucion
- After he stays back to protect Lilith while she's weak, the Hero comes along and slays him.
Act II Boss: Azmodan
- By the time the Hero finds Azmodan his army is still relatively small. The Hero slays him.
Act III Boss: Belial
- Being the Lord of Lies, Belial has turned quite a few very powerful humans to his cause, corrupting their souls. The Hero slays the corrupted humans and then takes out Belial.
Act IV Boss: Megademon
- After killing Belial the Hero enters Hell. The hero has to face countless demons and eventually slays the Megademon.
Diablo 3 Expansion, Act V Boss: Lilith
- The Hero returns from Hell to find Sanctuary almost entirely destroyed or enslaved, the work of Lilith. The Hero realizes that as long as Lilith lives the threat of the Prime Evils still looms. The Hero fights endless hordes of demons and corrupted Humans before fighting Lilith.
Another possibility for Act V: Imperius
- The Hero returns from Hell to find Sanctuary almost entirely destroyed or enslaved, the work of Lilith. Imperius decides to take matters into his own hands and enters Sanctuary, systematically destroying every living thing, human and demon alike. In order to save Sanctuary the hero is then forced to fight the Archangel Imperius. This ending leaves more viable room for Diablo 4.
I like your idea, it sounds like a good story. The only problem I have with it is that since as far as I know Baal isn't dead, so how would Lilith summon all 3 to create the Megademon when she can't summon Baal? I'm not as educated in the lore as you, so you probably know more than me by far, so if you know how she can summon all 3 then fair enough.
Baal isn't dead? You kill him in Diablo 2's expansion, Lord of Destruction. Did he come back to life somehow that I'm unaware of?
P.S. I learned all the lore I know in about 2 hours reading the wiki on this site. You'd be surprised just how fast you can learn the lore that way. I'm going to finish reading all the books before I begin my fan fiction, but if you'd like to include yourself in lore discussions just spend some time on the wiki. The Diablo history is so awesome...
About Lucion:
[spoil]I read this on the Diablo wiki:
"It is unknown what exactly became of Lucion. Though the first book of The sin war is clear on the fact that he was not 'killed' but simply 'was no more', it is never explained what that meant. It could very well be that Lucion was simply banished back into the Burning Hells where he would have to answer to his father Mephisto..."
In my version I'm going with the idea that he was banished, as it says it was clear he wasn't "killed". I didn't read the book so I can't say that with certainty, but it sounds reasonable to me that after both Lucion and Lilith were banished they might come back together in this manner.
Does that sound reasonable to you? I haven't gotten to that part in the book yet so I don't know all the facts, you'd probably know better than I would.[/spoil]
In your plot how does the meteor work into the bosses? It seems like it would be in ACt 1 since it's hitting the cathedral and we know that Act 1 looks like the dungeon under tritram.
Who would you have leading the army at the Arreat crater?
[spoil]I think you should actually read how he dies, it doesn't seem to me like he's coming back. I can super spoil it for you though if you want.[spoil]Uldyssian wills Lucion to become nothing, and Lucion actually fades from existence. [/spoil][/spoil]
You also forgot to add Wirt as a future boss. Maybe Wirt is actually the "Megademon" in disguise? Or he is the puppeteer of the entire plan, he obviously has a larger roll than D1. I mean he is the Gatemaster of the Cow Level.
well I like the idea of lillith being the boss, but she would have to be majorly revamped.
I am completely uneducated about the lore, but I will probably scavenge the site for information in a later time.
If I remember correctly, the LAST cinematic in D2: lod showed the robed man, and the old man thought he was was tyreal? and the guy gave him mephisto's soul stone, or Diablo's souls stone and then he found out the robed man was baal, and he then fell to the floor and started yelling: "NO, WHY" and was killed or something?
I might have the cinematic in the wrong order but I do remember this one where he was sitting in the jail cell.
Before Diablo 3 even begins to allow you in the game, you should be able to see a quick cinematic to catch you up with the story from d2, to the inbetween time of the 20 years till d3.

The meteor is Tyreal who will be cast out of Heaven by Imperius. After the Worldstone is destroyed Tyreal will make his way back to Heaven. When the Angiris Council discovers that Lilith is performing the Dark Summoning ritual the council will have another vote about whether or not Sanctuary should be destroyed. Imperius will argue that the humans have become more powerful without the Worldstone and Tyreal will argue that the humans are primarily on the side of the light which is evidenced by the events surrounding the Diablo 2 game. Tyreal will be "crippled" from destroying the Worldstone so Imperius will sieze this opportunity to weaken him further and expel him from Heaven in a ball of fire towards Tristram. Since Tyreal has been so weakened he won't be able to help the Hero, except for providing direction.
And what army at the Arreat crater? If you're referring to Baal's army, it was decimated when Tyreal destroyed the Worldstone.

If by "revamped" you mean she needs to be more difficult you must remember that the Pandemonium Event was just for s**ts and giggles, it doesn't actually happen anywhere in the Diablo timeline. Either way she would have been severely weakened from performing her Dark Summoning ritual at that time. Considering she's even capable of Dark Summoning I'd say that she won't need any revamping to be the final boss in the Diablo series.
However! I'm starting to lean toward having Imperius be the Act V boss for the following reasons: At one point Blizzard said something along the lines that the player would enter the realm of Heaven, "but not yet..." To me this implies that there WILL in fact be a Diablo 4, and that the final boss in Diablo 3's expansion will be an Archangel, and who better to be the big bad Archangel than Imperius? It still seems logical to me that Lilith could be the final, final boss in the Diablo franchise, it just seems less likely to happen in Diablo 3.
Ya the whole Jail Cell scene happened BEFORE the end of d2. After Baal left Kursast he got his soul stone from Marius and he headed to Arreat.
Oh yeah I meant to comment on that. He wasn't necessarily wrong, it WAS at the end of D2, but NOT at the end of Diablo 2's expansion.
I also forgot to comment about his request for a "catchup" cinematic. Blizzard already said that Cain will quickly tell you what happened in the last 2 games. If you'll notice in the Diablo 3 Cinematic Trailer there's a spot where it shows Tyreal destroying the Worldstone which suggests to me that this part where Cain catches you up will be accompanied by a cinematic.

Yea, but a nice, interesting cinematic to start the game to sounds great
and thanks, I thought I had it out of order..the one I was talking about was act4..By the way baal said at the end of it: "you have done well imperius" and then killed him, does that mean the old man was imperius, and wasn't imperious some sort of arch angel...
The cinematic are really important to me though, it is the only way you get to visualize the story the way they want you to see it. I would like an opening cinematic that shows what happened in Diablo 1, Diablo 2, Lod, and between the 20 years...It could be in a converation with cain, where cain says it all started when... the prime evils had an uprising...blah blah blah..
Cain could have a long monologue to explain WTF we are doing wherever we will begin act I.
It is also important that they elaborate on the 7 evils and what is going on with them...

Doesnt baal say"you have done well marius". Its been a while since ive seen it though so im not really sure

I say we need a Diablo movie trilogy based on The Sin War (made by Blizz's cinematics team, of course). That would be the best way to pull people into the amazing Diablo storyline.
EDIT: Oh, and I spoke with Daemaro about the Lucion thing and I think I'm gonna be changing some stuff around. Imperious will probably be the Act V boss, Lucion probably won't be in the story, and there will probably be a bit more emphasis on the effects of the Worldstone's destruction. I'll explain the rest later once I have it planned out again.

No, not Baal's Army, this army:
Ok, so it seems the army is actually one of sanctuaries armies, so then what/who do you think they are preparing to fight?
