Get real, folks, the diablo you all knew is dead, a few years ago i said right here in this forum that D3 had a pretty good chance of being blizzard first bust (i was flamed to death ofc), and what you know, its not even beta and its already looking that way.
I pose this question to those who say D2 was mainly a coop game.
If D2 was meant to be a coop game.. then how come to whole game.. all the way through baal on hell diff... was soloable?
I take it was Blizzards first try to turn the Diablo game into mainly a co-op game and since it was their first they probably want to test it out but still let it be solo-able to broaden sales and reviews.
my point here, btw, is that obviously it was not a coop game. it was ultimately a game for you to gear your char up and be the best out of the community. the story was so short, but we all played for 5+ years... why? to pvp/pk... and to farm for better gear to pvp/pk.
this thread isnt to be a flame fest... im merely pointing out the flaws in taking out a section of a game so obviously created for that very cause.

1. Making a game released in 2000 online-only would be financial suicide. There were still lots of people with 56K or no internet at all, and the game had to be playable for them, too.
2. The changes, especially those of 1.10 (iirc) definitely promoted cooperation, at least in Hell. Giving almost every monster immunity to something meant that the majority of players would have a very hard time 'going it alone' and would obviously encourage cooperative play. Of course it wasn't like soloing was IMPOSSIBLE, but it was definitely structured to encourage cooperation.

What is this 'we'? No, you. You did that. Don't speak for the whole community.
As stated already, the game was soloable in order to offer a full-length SP experience, while the scaling of difficulty allowed for a deep co-op experience as well.
Simple as that. I think PVP in the form of a simple 'Hostile' button was almost an afterthought, not the point of the game.

I said almost the exact same thing in another thread, lol...seems like the extent of the programming was to:
1. Let players target each other.
2. Make player drop an ear when killed by a player.
3. Miscellaneous 'rules' involving not being able to use certain TPs etc. just after hostile-ing, and not being able to unless you're in town.
Probably the ear part took the most work, lol. The rest seems like it could have been done with just on/off switches in the programming.
Just to keep on topic. I didn't play for 6 years to PvP or PK I played to find new items, find the BEST items, and adventure with friends.
Same. Once I realized that being good at PvP seemed to require absolute top-notch equipment, I decided it wouldn't be worth it to even bother. I like improving my equipment, but making a big deal out of 1 unit of life on a grand charm (saw lots of posts like this on D2 forums), I knew it wasn't for me. I like the game, but I'm also sane.

My only problem with this thread is that statement right there. You're telling everyone why they played the game and it's simply not true for everyone.
PK debate aside. I WANT more cooperative play in D3. It sounds like a great idea and could be lots of fun.
If they find some way to implement PK in a different realm or something and please everyone awesome.
No you are definitely not alone. We may even see a large number of people from the still thriving SP community finally come back to battle.net, many of whom left years ago sickened by the behavior of cattle.net.
I for one eagerly await this game, and am excited about getting into a big party the first day and going through as far as we can. I doubt I will even touch SP.
So far what we know of the game, the aspects they are adding to promote coop are great, and I fully expect more good news in the future with even more positive aspects.
Yeah. D1 and D2 were acutally coop RISKY rather than friendly. It was only friendly if you knew who were playing with. Risky in the fact that you took a chance whenever you played with somebody you didn't know.
Yeah, I bet it will turn into another PK/Anti-PK thread. As soon as the flames start burnin I WILL report it. Getting sick of the name calling and such with NO REAL intelligent defense or opposition.

Why does this make me wonder if people are going to organize parties for day 1?

Move on.

This isn't about if its cooperative play or not, this is about if it's PK over cooperative play.
The new developers want MORE cooperative play. So even though it might not of been a huge part in D2, it will be in D3.
Most unwise.
It's time to welcome the other 80% of the color wheel to a Diablo game.
Pretty much anyone I ever played with never even entertained the idea of PvP.
It was always about finding epic gear, rushing new characters, and just hanging out with your friends.

Glad I'm not alone.
It should be a great time.
