Now that the Mystic are gone, I would like to share with you guys an idea I had earlier today.
Since I can not write at battlnet forum this is the next best thing..
Idea.
Magic items have.. what 3 attributes? Lets just say that they have since Im unsure about this.
Mystic gives you the service of taking and storing 1 to 2 attributes from any magic item. Puts it in a "bank" and with additional service, gives you the option to take these attributes and but them on another magic items, as long as there is 1 or 2 slots availible (this is what I mean by 3 attributes per magic item maximum).
When paying The Mystic to take 1 (or 2) attributes, they are random, unless the magic item have just 1 (or 2) attributes and you pay her to take those away.
Example: (just made these up!)
First weapon you want the attributes from:
KriegHammers Staff of Purgatory
9.0 Damage Per Second
3–9 Damage
1.50 Attacks Per Second
-----
Critical Hit damage increased by 20-25%
+1-8 Vitality
+1 random property
second weapon you wanna use:
Über Cool Blade of Kajan
30.6–32.4 Damage Per Second
(18-19)–(33-35) Damage
1.20 Attacks Per Second
-----
Increases attack speed by 4-5%
I pay Mystic, she takes out 2 random attributes, in this case:
Critical Hit damage increased by 20-25%
+1-8 Vitality
These are stored in her bank.
Now I give her my Über Cool Blade of Kajan, pay her a fee, and I get this:
Über Cool Blade of Kajan
30.6–32.4 Damage Per Second
(18-19)–(33-35) Damage
1.20 Attacks Per Second
-----
Increases attack speed by 4-5%
Critical Hit damage increased by 20-25%
+1-8 Vitality
The whole idea of D3 is randomness. With your idea you give the players the option to tailor their gear, which will eventually lead up to a point where randomness is no longer needed. I cant approve this, sorry.
To me the mystic should provide a service intended for the profession, like the ability to forsee the future. Lets say you have a cool Legendary item you havent identified yet. What if the mystic can give you a choice? If you pay her a fee (or other solution) to identify the item for you leaving you with two random rings to chose from. If you are not satisfied with the stats on one ring you can always chose the other one.
so am i to undertsand that... you take said item(legendary or whatever) to her she identifies it, and with out you knowing what said legendary item was, gives you 2 rings, closly equivalent in item lvl as item you came to her with, to choose from? or do you get to know what the legendary had on it, and get the choice of getting it instead of the 2 ring choices or whatever else for choices that could possibly show up(i.e. amulet or other gear)????

Thanks for the respons, as it seemed a bit rash I needed opinions of what I might miss, and yeah its obvious. We need more random.
Terribly flawed idea - might work on other games at least.
I think that the mystic will return in the expansion with the Talisman (probably being the artisan responsible for crafting charms and perhaps also runes).
They won't make the decision to put the Mystic again in this phase of development, neither should they add an artisan in a game patch, so you could probably expect the Mystic (or another artisan) to be back in the first expansion, as they will have a lot of time to test new designs and different ideas throughout a year along with the feedback from the final game.
