It was somewhat mentioned but I REALLY want to know the number of weapons in the game. I hope the in game models for them look as sick as I imagine them to be. Oh and the shoulders for the barb and moving headpiece for the Witch Doc looked tasty. anyone have nonphotobucket pics for the links for the images that were given to us by Bashiok? it says i need to update to photobucket pro to see them :/
I have no idea what all this whining from the fans is about. Diablo 2 had like 3 looks for armor. Basic, advanced and armored, divided over the body parts. Each armor was merely a combination of these 3 looks on arms, shoulders, chest and legs. Here there will be 18 tiers for each part and the character's look will be determined not just by armor but by pants, boots, gloves etc separately. That's countless combinations compared to what D2 had. You can combine the 18 armor looks at will while D2's armor looks were preset by the number of armors in the game. Plus there will be dyes of course. When we look at weapons there were for example only 2 unique looks for two handed swords, only one for one handed axes, two for daggers, three for javelins etc. Here the number will be incomparably higher. And yet people whine that it's not enough? Give me a break.

A soft answer turneth away wrath. Once wrath is looking the other way, shoot it in the head!
I just hope legendaries(set items) have different looks than those 18 tiers of armor. Also I very much like the idea of CrusaderGT to have some kind of unused weapon(s) visible on your character.
I just wanted to know what peeps think of it but to be honest I want it to be simple and just look the way it is right now. Some of the artwork are just so badass but when translated to the game will look silly. Thanks though good to know some liked it =D
Anyway, I hope blizzard doesn't reveal anymore artwork of the gears or weapon because one of the thing I like in diablo or any action rpg loot fest kind of game is not knowing what you'll get and what you'll look like. I have a choice not to look at it but temptation always prevails.

I love all loot fest kind of game! I will be playing all of them for the next few years. Loot fest games I'm looking forward to: LotR: War in the North,Torchlight 2,Borderlands 2 and of course Diablo 3.

We don't know very much about how many weapons will be in the game. What we do know if they do seem to look very nice ;). The 3D modles hold true to the concept art very well.

I don't get this. Why does it matter how many tiers are in total if everyone's gonna have items from the last 2-4 tiers in the end anyway?
I mean, if we have 18 tiers, it's safe to assume the first 14 (at least) are not gonna be used once you got items from the final ones.
That's a good question. It's possible that legendary items past Normal difficulty will be enhanced enough so that they will be viable end-game. That way there will actually be roughly 12 sets of legendary gear that's usable end-game. This is speculation, of course.
The other (and more reasonable) possibility is that, unlike in Diablo 2, a base item will have more than one Legendary item associated with it. For example, the tier 18 mace could have 3 or 4 legendary versions that have completely different stats and bonuses. In fact, I know Blue mentioned at one point they intend on patching in new items after launch. The only way that's possible is if this is the case.
I still don't get people who think there will be less variety than D2. I am just glad that I won't have to go back to looking like a newb when I begin nightmare and hell.
Yea. Unless you're trying to make a point, its pretty apparent that theres really only 5 or so unique looks for armor in D2. The differences are far too minor to qualify as entirely different looks.
This is exactly what boggles my mind. I enjoyed D2 immensely, but in reality, there was very little difference in how your character looked as you moved through a difficulty, and then it started over again after you moved on. I don't know who these people are that think that there were so many different types of armors and so many different looks to characters in D2. All I remember was everyone almost always looking identical.

Based on how confident they seem with having things planned for the end game, I would imagine that there are probably many different types of legendary items per tier, at least for the last few tiers of item types. It would be hard to justify having a lot of different content to the end game, if there was only a tiny pool of potential items to get there.
Am I the only one that's annoyed that your chain mail is going to look like a hulk vest on your Barbarian and then when you put it in your stash and check it out on your Monk it will look like robes? I know the alternative is probably worse (all armour looking the same across the board).
I could mention something about realism but that's going to get shut down. I get it if the player gets the items crafted but to find a unique helmet that was once worn by trang oul, it should look the part. Not like a voodoo mask on one character and a crown on another.
It sort of sounds silly that they would compare the amount of armor from Diablo 2 to Diablo 3. Finding better items is all good and fun but where is the satisfaction when this rare item thats a once in a blue moon, drops and it looks exactly the same as that crappy blue youve been wanting to replace since the beggining of the Act.
On a seperate note, I wonder how set items are going to look.
Will they keep the same apperance as other items in that specific teir and maybe an added glow like in diablo 2? Or will they be very different visually from other items for an added satisfaction for collecting all the pieces.
I really like the amount of customization and difference in spells which absolutley dwarfs the armor customization (not talking about the added dyes which Imo is cool but a cheap way to make your rare items look / feel more powerful) I hope they really add more armor content, Atleast for set items or uniques for that matter.
Set items are not considered Legendary items, which is also the category Uniques now fall under. Also chances are Legendary items will have their own visual looks outside the 18 standard tiers.

Set items are sets of legendaries. As in legendaries with attached set bonuses.
Official Blizzard Quote:
Set items are now legendaries defined by a set bonus. They're crafted items while leveling (recipes can be found that grant the ability to craft all the items in a set), which allows someone to really invest in filling out a set before they out-level it. Then at max level we'll drop set pieces normally.
Interesting, I've misunderstood it for a while then. So all an all there are no more set items as we know them, only Uniques, which are now Legendaries, with set-like bonuses. Makes sense, and simplifies the concept.

And legendaries don't HAVE to be set items, they can be items that belong to themselves as well like uniques in D2. From what I understood the explanation . That's probably how they can justify giving the legendaries their own unique looks and features. YAY. But I don't know when they dropped the set items.... I could have sworn at Blizzcon '10 there was mention of item colours, and sets were listed as green.
Also, the fact that Blizzard has given attention to 18 tiers and not just 2-4 end game ones would obviously be the fact that not everyone plays Nightmare/Hell. Most of us here will, I know I'll go through all difficulties but keeping the lower difficulties interesting would be a massive part of new players becoming immersed in the game world of Diablo.
By the way Winged, that picture of the 3D model Axes you have there, could you or someone else explain those? Are they 6 of the 18 different tiers?
EDIT: On the wiki it says QUEST items are green.... I must have been imagining things.. <_<
I'm not sure about the set items having different name colours , I could have sworn they said set items would be a different colour (it may have been green) they must have changed it. This is odd, it makes it harder to recognise items at a glance.
I mean, if we have 18 tiers, it's safe to assume the first 14 (at least) are not gonna be used once you got items from the final ones.
Have they really addressed the problem of everybody looking the same at endgame? Sure, coloring the armor is fine, but will it really help that much?
This is a good discussion on it and maybe will put it into perspective.
