I'm a (fairly) new Diablo 3 Player, and after some hours farming with my Wizard, I tried to create a fellow Demon Hunter to remain on the same ranged attack style. So far I'm liking the DH more than my Wizard.
The problem is, I can't get to 200K DPS. And when I compare my char with ones like Motherload (link below), I don't know what I'm doing wrong, because almost all my statuses are better then his/her. I know Steady Aim gives 20% buff to DPS, but that's not the sole difference.
I do have:
More critical chance (52% vs. 49.5%);
More DEX (2746 vs. 2590);
More attack speed (36% vs. 35%);
More critical hit damage (441% vs. 424%);
I guess a friend of mine found one source of problem: By changing only the weapon, I loose 80~90 critical hit damage. I'll have to compensate this on ammy, gloves or rings, although it will be hard to substitute my Unity.
reaching 200k paper dps is not easy and will cost you a lot of gold . a shitload gold.
from 150k to 200k is very expensive dont mention to get to 300k or even 400k... without any buffs of course
from my experience 200k is about 2billion gear worth , 300k is maybe 4 billion and 400k is about 10+billion or even more -
that seems to be preety much the same for every class since itemization is very similar.
Yeah looks like its the weapon dmg that makes the difference.
Yes, the weapon made a difference. I bought one similar, after some D3UP simulations, and got almost 9kDPS flat. I changed the Emerald to a 100% Crit Damage, and net lost only 70% Crit Damage. But I recovered 50% of that with a ring, so almost no loss.
Actually quite simple: charscreen dps on battlenet profile != actual dps you're reaching for.
This clearly reflects while loading his/her profile to d3up, you're 156,041.96-139,855.94=16,186.02 dps behind. Everything (attack speed, crit chance, crit damage) multiplies with one number - weapon damage. And Motherload destroys you right there. If you load his weapon to your profile (as you did) you're suddenly behind on dex (-160) and crit damage (-42%) and this adds up.
100% agreed on that. New Manticore did half the trick.
while adding another ~200 dex on the rest of your gear (which shouldn't be to hard due to strong BoA's with this patch). But actually i'd start with good jewelry to boot with, your piece are terrible to be honest. Min/max damage isn't as strong as on a fast onehanded weapon for a dual wielding melee but it's rather cheap way to improve your weapon damage compared to a new weapon.
Agree again. A small change on jewelry and Gloves got me there, with new crafted Gloves, Shoulders and Bracers. More on the crafted itens below, or on a next post.

Actually the most expensive item on my DH gear is the Dead Man's Legacy. I bought it a month ago for 40million gold. The others were all cheaper than 5 mil. Only the new manticore was bought for 10mil yesterday. So, on total less than a 100Mil for my DH.
I like your style, sir. I really would like to play with a Windforce, as the aesthethics are just amazing. And the knockback. And the speed.
But a weapon like yours on US server is way too expensive for me. The cheaper one I found was like 300 million. More than my entire DH.
Maybe it's easier to play without a Manticore on Europe servers. I don't know.
On the crafted itens: I was able to farm and craft new shoulders, gloves and bracers. That netted me less All Resistance (100 less, in general), hurting my EHP a lot.
BUT! (there's always a but)
I netted 250 more DEX, 1.5% more critical chance and 6% more attack speed, so my Unbuffed DPS went to 189K. Almost at the goal.
EDIT: Added the crafted itens:
The effectiveness of Shadow Power raised at the point that the 100 AR lost made almost no difference.
thx, testing some pvp builds .) + u can check this if intersted in pve strafe build, i farmed paragons like this + sometimes mp1 legendaries farm with my monk friends
Will try! I'm studying the strafe build, as I think it's a faster way to faceroll MP0 and MP1 with my gear.
Contrary to what most have said it doesnt take alot of gold to reach the mark of 200k DPS. I have maybe 100m invested in my Demon hunter, you just have to be patient and buy smart. Average Damage is going ot be a big contributeing factor into your damage aswell, even more so than attack speed. Cant really look through your profile right now being as I am at work, but I would suggest if your not to try to find rings and ammys with more Average damage. My battle tag is Sirpain#1625. I have 215k dps unbuffed without Steady Aim. Also with proper builds, such as a Grenades build I run for solo Farming, You only really need around 400 AR. SPamming SP Gloom infinately makes things alot easier.

I'm not sure what I completely understood what you said, mate. Are you suggesting me to buy or not to buy jewelery with average damage ?
My D3UP profile gos messed with the new crafted itens, so I cannot use it to simulate new stats. I'm running a few simulations on d3rawr for now, with some success. But not sure what should I do next.
All the upgrades now seem to be a little expensive.
Then, get 2 rings with 45-50 avarage dmg and high dex.
Get a neck with 45-50 avarage dmg, high dex, crit chance anc crit dmg.
Not sure if this would be a good cost-benefit upgrade. My rings are somewhat expensive, and to get 2 quadrifectas as you'll stating would surely increase my DPS (at a high cost), but would also reduce a lot my EHP (the hellfirering gives me a good amount of EHP).
The same goes to the neck. But I would not loose much EHP with a new quadfecta neck.
Not taking attack speed, crit chance and DEX amount considerations, only changing the manticore to a 2-socket one would skyrocket my DPS. (33 kDPS more unbuffed DPS).
Thanks for the suggestions mate, made me think a lot about it!
EDIT: Updated the table with the new acquisition: A Witching Hour!
^^
Nice DH! Inspired by you, I got a Witching Hour for my DH, and I'm thinking again in completing the Nat's set. I do have the ring and the helm, but the helm only have 3% CC and the ring doesn't have any at all. My DPS would be hurt badly with my current Nat's set.
UPDATE: Second target shot down! Sheet DPS now at 201k!
This is without steady aim!
Thanks guys! Your help was extremely valuable!
PS: There's just one little thing annoying me: The unbuffed DPS on D3UP is 192K.... I'll have to figure out what is this difference. Any suggestions ?
If you use the Scoundrel (as you should) he will give you 8-13k dps via the 3% crit buff. That might explain the difference between paper dps and the dps you see on d3up. Just apply the buff when you are on d3up, and you'll see the same numbers as on your char. sheet.

What I'm missing on my char, that is missing to achieve 200k ? How/what can I change to be near or pass the 200K barrier ?
Thanks!
Disclaimer: I took Motherload as a comparison randomly, just because I found someone with worse stats and better DPS. I don't know he/she, and never s
Disclaimer 2: I know 200KDPS is just a number, and doesn't mean much, but is a personal goal I'd like to beat.
Wizard | Demon Hunter
I checked this on D3UP too. If I add his weapon to my profile, my DPS increases only 8.4k. See:
Still a huge difference. What else I'm missing ? There is still about 50K DPS missing there.
Wizard | Demon Hunter
Nah you seemt o have 2% more..how strange.

Hehehehe, thankfully I don't have plans to 300k DPS so far.

100 crafts is about 19 million gold
Is it really worth that? I made like 100 gloves so far and I haven't gotten much of anything. Maybe I was unlucky though...
No worries, english is not my first language, and sometimes I don't understand everything well.
I'll definetely take a look on Min-Max damage on my jewelry. And run some calculations on D3UP.
I already crafted some (10, give or take), and ended with this one, a little better than my old:
4kDPS more. A little less EHP.
Wizard | Demon Hunter
Not an option for me. It's against the ToS, and I don't want to risk my played hours for this.
Wizard | Demon Hunter
Indeed, I could use some CritDamage. I'm on 345% now, and this can improve. It'll cost a lot, though.

Thanks mate! I did it, I compared both your profile and mine on D3UP, and came to some important differences:
Not taking attack speed, crit chance and DEX amount considerations, only changing the manticore to a 2-socket one would skyrocket my DPS. (33 kDPS more unbuffed DPS).
