Build Guide
Hello guys! This is the best LoN pushing solo build for the Necromancer so far. It has a lot of potential (GR 95+).
It is a LoN build so you want to have as many ancient items as possible. With 2 missing ancients, no augments and poor weapon and neck, I cleared a GR92 (video). It is good vs white thrash and vs elite and rift guardian witch makes it really fun to play!
Offense:
Your main damage dealer for the rift clear is Corpse Explosion - Close Quarters witch is buff by LON (1300%), Grasp of Essence (500%), Nayr's Black Death (4 poison skills = 260%), Krysbin's Sentence (100% for slowed enemies or 300% for frozen, stun or blinded enemies), Trag'Oul's Corroded Fang (200% cursed enemies), The Johnstone (200%), Bane of the Trapped (around 40%), % poison damage (40-60%), Corpse Explosion skill damage increase on gear (30%) and Zei's stone add a little bit damage as well as mobs can be hit as far as 31 yards (11 yards corpse target radius + 20 yards explosion radius). The damage scale really fast with area damage as well. The 300% from Krysbin's can be proc by the Blind Faith helm witch as a 40% chance to blind on hit, by Bone armor - Dislocation, by Zei's stone and by Land of the Dead - Frozen Land. You want to make sure to curse all mobs with your Grim Scythe - Curse scythe to get the 200% damage from Trag'Oul's Fang and to get the Frailty curse damage bonus. You also want to make sure to get the 4 stacks of poison before corpse exploding everything. Use Golem on cooldown to generate corpse in the middle of a big pack and use Land of the Dead on cooldown to obliterate all the screen. You gain stack of Corpsewhisper Pauldron as you corpse explode everything witch buff your second damage dealer to finish off elite: Corpse Lance.
Your second damage dealer is Corpse Lance - Shredding Splinters witch is buff by LON (1300%), Corpsewhisper Pauldron (600%), Nayr's Black Death (4 poison skills = 260%), Krysbin's Sentence (100% for slowed enemies or 300% for frozen, stun or blinded enemies), Trag'Oul's Corroded Fang (200% cursed enemies), The Johnstone (200%), Bane of the Trapped (around 40%), % poison damage (40-60%), Corpse Lance skill damage increase on gear (15%) and Zei's stone (up to around 50%). This skill is mainly use to finish off elite and to kill the rift guardian. The single target damage of this skills is much higher than Corpse explosion (about x3 per corpse consumed) but the AOE is much worst.
Defense:
This build is pretty tanky ;). You don't have to stack your damage reduction when you enter a rift or when you die as pretty much all the other Necromancer builds. Your damage reduction come from Aquila Cruirass (50%), LON (4x13=52%), Golemskin Breeches (30%), Bone armor (30%), Dayntee's Binding (50%), Ancient Defenders (12% per enemy stun or frozen). You also debuff mobs with Grim Scythe - Curse Scythe witch apply Decrepify (30%) and Corpse Lance (up to 30% if you use the Shredding Splinters rune). Your Ancient Defenders are proc by Bone armor - Dislocation, Zei's stone and Land of the Dead - Frozen Land. The passive Stand Alone also gives you a huge 90% increase armor.
Recovery:
The legendary gem Molten Wilderbeest is a must have for this build. It gives up to 100k life per second plus a nice shield when you enter the rift. Life per hit is ok but not great here. If you don't have this gem, you will find yourself dying because of very low recovery. You also get recovery from your Grim Scythe - Curse Scythe that apply the Leetch Curse (2% life on hit) witch is also really nice.
Options:
-Blind Faith instead of Leoric's crown for more crowd control potential. Blind Faith is really good for this build. It provides you offense and defense. But cooldown is so important for this buils that you can't drop Leoric's.
-Nemesis Bracers instead of Ancient Defenders, more elites to kill but less damage reduction.
-Swamp Land Wader (Witch Doctor pants) instead of Goleskin for more damage (% poison damage) but less damage reduction.
-Lidless Wall shield instead of Leger's Disdain. I think it performs the same so it comes down to what is your best item. It has a little bit less damage but provides more thoughness.
-The passives are pretty much all mandatory. I would not recommand switching Eternal Torment because it appears that the curses apply from your Grim Scythe only last 10 sec and it's really hard to keep all 3 curses on mobs all the time. It's also really hard to keep the 200% damage bonus from Trag'Oul's for all the 10 sec duration of Land of the Dead so you lose a lot of DPS. You can switch Draw Life for an offensive passive like Spreading malediction or Commander of the Risen Dead but you will find you and/or your golem dying too often.
-Zei's can be replace by Gogok (cooldown, thoughness) or by Isoteric (thoughness). I think that Gogok gives you a nice balance of thoughness and cooldown reduction for this build while giving you attack speed to apply your curse faster. I think that Zei's is much better thought. It gives huge damage multiplier to the Corpse Lance's target. Plus it has a 20% to stun on hit witch proc the Ancient defenders (thoughness) and Krysbin's Sentence (damage). If you're tired of being crowd control use Invigorating gemstone.
-I don't think having the 2-hander Nayr's Black death equip and Trag'Oul's cubed is better than this setup since you will lose an ancient item spot on your gear and some important stats.
-You can use the Ricochet rune on Corpse Lance. It's still a poison rune and add more damage to the build.
Secondary stats on gear:
You want to reach at least 50% crowd control resistance. Items that can role crowd control resistance are the helm, the rings and the neck. You want reduce missile damage on torso and bracer. Everything else should be magical resistance (ideally physical).
Gems:
Use diamond gem in helm, topaz gems in armor and emerald gem in weapon. If you are really high paragon, use ruby gems in armor.
Rift guardian fight:
Ideally you want a Channeling pylon or a Power pylon for the RG. If so you're really good to go with this build without Bane of the Stricken. If not (like in the video) it takes between 2-3 min for the kill without stricken and without a pylon. Damage reduction is really good vs the RG so don't worry about dying, you can stay close to keep the 4 stacks of poison (stay far when Land of the Dead is up to proc Zei's Stone damage bonus).
Weakness of the build:
The main weakness of the build is the lack of mobility since their is no spot for Blood Rush on the skill bar. Having Illusory boots equip helps to get in and out of a pack of mobs and to walk through tight corridors.
Edit 1:
-Eternal Torment is much superior than Rigor Mortis.
-Leoric's crown performs a little bit better than Blind Faith.
Edit 2:
-Zei's stone of Vengence seems better than Gogok.
Any suggestion for the build would be nice! I love LON builds since you have a lot of freedom.
Hey man nice build, it's very similar to some I've made. But I've gotta ask why Blind Faith? Is it just to proc Krysbin's easier or prevent mobs from hitting you? Blind doesn't proc APDs as far as I know but I could be wrong. Wouldn't the blind just CC mobs and make them immune to being stunned by bone armor and frozen by LoTD.
I feel that Andariel's Visage would be a much better choice, especially since this is a poison build. The Nova from Andy's is going to be buffed by LoN and any % poison dmg you have on your gear as well.
Hey thank you for the comment! I did some testing with Andariel's visage and i was a little bit disappointed. The poison nova really don't do anything. The damage is around only 3% the damage of corpse explosion according to d3planner. Plus this helm is rare as f@@@ and it rolls with attack speed witch is not really great for this build. I feel like having a perfect ancient Andariel's Visage with poison damage, int, crit chance and a socket is almost impossible. Plus you'll lose 900-1000 vitality and take 5-10% more fire damage ;(
Blind Faith gives you a more consistant Krysbin's triple damage bonus. There will always be a mob blinded or stunned that gonna take a lot of damage and than generate an extra corpse. I don't feel that the blind make mobs immune to the next stun of Bone armor it just reduce the time they get stunned a little bit. But again i feel like the damage is more consitant when Bone armor is on cooldown. You're right when you say that blinded mobs don't proc APDs but they can't attack you so it's a nice little debuff.
I want to do some more testing with Leoric's Crown since cooldown is a very valuable stat for this build. It may be better than Blind Faith ;D
That's what I thought but it's always hard to tell without testing it yourself. It's really weird to see blind faith actually used in a build, I've salvaged so many perfect ones.
It's more about the 20% poison dmg than the Nova. Yeah, you're right, it is pretty difficult to get one with 20% poison dmg, int, cc, and a socket but i think its a lot easier to roll one on Necro since they only have 3 elements compared to WD. Rerolling with bounty mats is the way to go because i doubt one like that is ever going to drop.
From my testing I think Leoric's Crown is probably best option for LoN Corpse Explosion/Lance builds simply because CDR is so important.
Goodluck with the build man. I'll def give it a try soon.
Perfect explanation and build.
Thank you.
What i don't like about this build is the fact that Corpse Lance is so much more powerful than the Corpse Explosion. Remove Corpse Lance and Corpse Explosion itself will be 80-85 at best.
I think they work well together. Corpse explosion do massive damage to thrash mobs and Corpse Lance is great at single target. Anyways, i'm pretty sure they gonna nerf Corspe Lance in a future Patch seeing all the 105+ clear using the blood lance build.
Question for you: Why Zei's here? I get that for corpse lance it's better, however for 3/4 of a rift you are in melee range for corpse explosions so it's completely wasted. Powerful would be a more substantial bonus during those times, and if you're looking to augment Rift Guardian kills more, Stricken would be even better. The proc for stuns is useful for sure, but on average it only adds 60% damage increase for one second (20% of the time you get 300% damage for one second), and has diminishing returns. Powerful would be a flat 20% that is maintained after your first elite pack, and 35% against elites, where Stricken would be substantially better scaling, most especially against Rift Guardians and as you go higher up with longer pack fights.
I did some testing with Bane of the Powerful and I figured out that it was a little bit hard to maintain the 20% damage increase. Sometimes, you just kill a yellow without killing his minions, sometimes you die, sometimes you just skip an elite pack because of bad affixes (juggernaut, arcane, etc). I figured out that even though corpse explosion is more a melee skill, in a big pack, it hits mobs as far as 30 to 35 yards witch gives you 30-40% damage increase for these mobs. For mobs you hit with Corpse Lance (elites, RG), it's a guarantied 50% damage increase. As you said, it gives a nice stun CC that not only proc Krysbin's but the Ancient defenders as well. The toughness and damage boost is really noticeable when you switched to Zei's. Gogok would be my second choice and isoteric my third. I would not really recommend Stricken for the build as the RG is not really a problem and you don't really have benefits during the rift clear.
Hmm interesting. Thanks for the reply. I hadn't considered the Ancient Parthan proc, which is a very good point. That's an additional stun that will proc while you're using corpse explosion for sure. I will definitely be testing this build out, and am working on getting it built! Thanks for you time and energy on this one; it's quite refreshing versus other builds!
No problem! Enjoy the build and give me your feedback!
change ur Zei to Stricken. ur corps wont have any effect from it.
Zei's stone has given me the best results for this build so far (see comment 11).
I may be missing something, but why use Dayntee's Binding when Decrepify isn't included in the skills, other than on Grim Scythe? Why not just use a Witching Hour or even a Goldwrap + BotH for speeds?
I really dig this build overall though. Nice job
I would not recommand playing this build for speeds. It's kind of slow. It's a pushing build. Good luck with the build!
Hi all,
1. What does the charcter sheet look like for this build 3 mill dps ?
2. Would i be better off with +20 poision on an item or 300k more dps on the sheet.
3. Anyone know a higher clearing Necro LON build ?
Thanks D3Fans,
