Build Guide
For those of you who have played Marauder Demon Hunter in the past this game play is extremely similar. Kite back and avoid damage as much as possible. For those of you new to Demon Hunter the idea is to shoot with evasive fire and Multishot to proc focus restraint buffs and to keep those buffs active as much as possible while casting Multishot for damage and evasive fire to cc enemies or regen Hatred. Long story short, toughness does not matter at all because in high greater rifts you will get one shot by almost anything so the only way to avoid dieing is to do enough damage to kill everything first.
First: On weapon, chest and offhand max discipline secondary is a must, even sacrificing 5% sheet damage for max discipline is often worth it.
Second: On belt and pants evasive fire damage is recommended.
Third: Multishot damage on offhand, helm, and boots is extremely good.
Amulets: Any amulet will do if it has crit chance, crit damage, socket and then either phy% or dex, however cameo, xephirian and hellfire are the best. I am personally a fan of cameo due to the fact that jailer is arcane damage and often one shots you past GR45.
Weapons: High dps and rcr is really the only things you need on the weapon, Calamity is a very good choice as is Windforce for the knockback but for the most part this will be whatever high dps ancient you get as a drop.
Gems: Pretty standard here. The iceblink has insane synery with bane of the trapped, slowing enemies you hit from afar then trapped giving you increased damage on those enemies.
Potion: I highly recommend using a Zultan-Kule aid potion with this build because waller mobs will kill you because vault cannot go through walls.
Disclaimer: The major difference between this build and what a LOT of demon hunters are using currently is that many demon hunters use arsenal of their multishot and ballistics instead of steady aim. This is a viable build. I would recommend this if you have a good fire% amulet and reapers wraps, however that being said my testing has shown the physical version with full broadside and steady aim does appear to have a higher overall dps.
Questions? Leave them in the comments below. Good Luck in season 3!
i'm really contemplating between Wolf or Bat, you think down the stretch, Wolf is the winner huh?
So In my opinion wolf for this build is almost strictly better. For party play wolf allows for a 30% dmg buff to all party members. For single play bat companion allows for about 2 extra casts of multishot. So when using the wolf companion at full hatred you get 10 sec of 30% damage upgrade and at least 7 casts of multishot if you have +50 max hatred from paragon points with no rcr at all. This results in a damage output of 210% vs the 200% you would get from the 2 casts of multishot you get from the +50 hatred from bat companion. On another random note wolf companion will often tank boss hits for you while bat companion in general doesn't.
The damage from max discipline is an additive state added to the base damage of your multishot or evasive fire while focus/restraint is a damage multiplier. So in other words without focus/restrain you have 1/2 the damage you do with them. And considering if you have 65-80 discipline already before a manald heal it only increases your damage by 2-5% rather than the 2x multiplier you get from focus restraint. While yes unity is extremely good and helpful, i would rather use something like SOJ if you went the unity route. Either way focus/restraint is in my opinion best in slot.
Hi. Given Iceblink gives 10% cc can this be taken into account by prioritising other stats over cc on some of your gear (eg rings or amulet). cheers.
Yes this is an accurate statement. However in most cases the crit chance is still the highest possible damage output on the item. The major place you might be able to get away with taking crit chance off is your amulet and replace it with 20% phy damage. In the other slots where crit chance can be placed the only other possible good option is rcr, which is not that critical to the build considering its diminishing returns. Thanks for the advice though!
Yeah, It was a bit of a leading statement on my part as I rolled off 10% cc on my hellfire amulet to 20% fire. btw my build is not currently using Iceblink I'm running with Entangling Shot/Fire but nevertheless I'm at 52%cc without the 10% on my amulet which gives it an almost perfect 1/10 ratio to my cd. The stats (fire damage) are showing I get a slight gain in damage by running it this way. I guess in the ideal world I'd want a hellfire with cc/cd and elemental damage but considering it rolled originally with 725 dex; a socket and 100% cd (ballistics passive) I really can't complain.
You made completely the correct decision. May I ask why you are using entangling shot? in your situation I would still use iceblink and trade out full broadside for arsenal or reroll the fire% on your amulet to phy%. I'm guessing you have an ancient entangling shot bow?
Interesting. In truth I've been playing around with a few combinations and I guess I'm just still experimenting (which in a way you never really stop doing) to figure out what is working best and also just as importantly (to me anyway) what you actually enjoy playing the best.
I'm a PS4 player, almost always solo (hacked weapons make group play a joke). I came from a cold maurader build and have reluctantly left it for the UE because it is undeniably stronger and gets rid of the one massive frustration I had with M6: You start a new GRIFT and are immediately hit by a double elite pack; poison; arcane; lightning etc and you die over and over because you can't even set up. With UE you are hitting at 100% within seconds and it has significantly reduced frustration even when you get one of those nightmare starts. Anywway, I was using iceblink with my M6 build as I was full cold with an ancient Etrayu.
When I went UE multishot Arsenal seemed like the logical choice since I have Ballistics on my Hellfire. I stuck with iceblink initially and used evasive fire focus, but then I went to level iceblink up from 50 and found it had capped out. I decided to dump iceblink as I can't really get my head around using a gem that can't continue to grow. I've gone back to BotP but am considering Pain Enhancer and Toxin as well. Don't like Taegek as I'm too lazy to stress about keeping it up even though I admit it is probably a better choice.
The actual wepaons I'm using now are either an ancient windforce with 12 disc and resource cost reduction or an ancient calamity with 12 discipline (but life on hit). I chose entangling shot because I just decided I wanted to go full fire and it was the only real choice as it helps to proc bane of the trapped/cull the weak. I can certainly try going physical but my Hellfire Amulet is a problem in this regard -I'll admit I have another hellfire with something like 9cc 92cd and 715 dex and Aweness passive but on that one I hhd to roll a socket so it can't be changed. Probably my best option if i go physical. I can't stand the idea of farming for another hellfire. it is RNG hell.
nope, Invigoration is the only way outside of items
Thank you for answering this question! This is completely correct. The only way to get max discipline is +15 from invigoration and +12 from secondary stats from each your weapon, offhand, and cloak.
if you want more discipline, not that i think it's viable or anything, Manald Heal and legacy SoJ can give you boost in more disc:)
If I roll one of the build passives on a Hellfire Amulet, what would you recommend in its place?
Tactical advantage, blood vengeance and if you are using a fire build ballistics are the best other passives.
Thought on using Strongarm Bracers with Windforce?
