Now, I can basically guarantee nobody on this forum knows about this game, why you may ask ?
Because it's a text game.
BUT DON'T RUN OFF !!!
Right now you may be thinking "Ahg, no graphics".
Which is what I thought when I first started playing the game, thought my friend was a complete moron for even touching this game.
But damn, got hooked pretty fast.
This game is basically 100% about gameplay, since the developers have not had to spend time upgrading graphics.
It's also 100% free, none of that "pay for extra features" crap. The client used to play the game is also free, so you can play this game for absolutely no monetary cost.
In the game, you play a god. Your god can take the form of 1 of 5 classes, which are the Demon, Vampire, Werewolf, Mage, and Dragon.
Each class has over 20 unique powers, and these powers grant abilities like spells, buffs, combat bonuses, or new combat moves.
Each class also has many sub-classes, which further break classes apart in powers and skills.
Classes also have "lesser calling" talents, which reflects the background of your class.
These lesser callings grant special bonuses to your class, and can grant extra abilities.
For example, the demon character can be the spawn of a fiend, greater demon, or devil.
The vampire can be a member of 1 of 4 vampire covens.
The mage can specialize as 1 of 4 elements.
The dragon can be a certain colour, which affects their breath weapon, and their attacks. The dragon can also be a dracolich (undead dragon), this template can be applied to any dragon colour.
And the werewolf can come from certain areas, such as the arctic, or the swamps. They can also specialize as werewolves, werefoxes, or werebears.
Along with these powers, are talents which can apply to any character based on where to decided to allocate your stats.
Now as for combat...
Basically, the combat system is what the game is all about.
Each character can have multiple "locations" depending on which class you are using. The humanoid classes have locations such as left and right arm, feet, and head. Classes like the demon or dragon can also have tails. All classes can also have a wings location, depending on which powers you took, or if you decided to take certain talents.
Anywho, each location can be controlled individually, for example, you could type in commands to defend with your left arm, which you strike with your right arm, headbutt with your head, and jump with your legs, all of which would be executed simultaneously.
These aren't the only commands though, there are many basic commands which can be chained together to form different attack moves.
In total, there are over 11340 combat moves (not fucking kidding, you read that right).
This allows for players to always be discovering new combat techniques, and to refine their fighting styles.
Speaking of styles, they are another part of the game. There are 25 fighting styles, which grant different combat bonuses, and grant different combat moves depending on the weapon being used.
As for weapons, there are 306 types of weapons, ranging from simple daggers, to ripped off limbs of enemies. Weapons can also be assigned magical mods, which are determined randomly (much like diablo).
Anywho, just thought I'd throw this game out there, it's been working wonders for me to pass time while I wait for D3, and I heavily recommend the game for people who enjoy gameplay over graphics.
Also, as a bit of a sidenote, the game is all online, so there are constantly other players to interact with. These players are some of the most helpful I have ever seen, and always help new players. So if anyone chooses to join, you just need to ask the players online and they'll point you where you need to go, or will teach you how to play. There are also help files for nearly every command in game command, making it very easy to learn by yourself. There is also an extensive "newbie" help file, which can be accessed in game to refer to as you're typing in commands.
Should also point out that this game has a fairly steep learning curve, and may seem overwhelming at first. However, if you stick with it, you can easily grasp many of the more advanced features of the game. Just ask for help from the other players, we've got a great community. If you need any help, post your username on this thread, and I'll help you out as soon as I can.
Or alternatively, send me a tell, do so by typing "tell" then your message. My usernames are Kabraxis and Kuvati.
Anywho, http://www.godwars2.org/ theres the website. On it you can find a way to get connected to the game, and information on the game. http://www.godwars2.org/mwi/who And for any who are curious, theres a list of all the players online right now. It's real time, so at the time you open that page, thats who is online.
We've got a fairly small, but very dedicated and tightly knit community.
And as another sidenote, the game is constantly being updated by the development team, it sees very regular quest, item, and class updates. Classes are still in the works actually, a lich idea has been floating around, and the developers are still taking input from the players.

Never heard of DikuMUD, what was it like? Hopefully will be pretty similar to Godwars 2.
And heh, turns out the developer of the game used D2 as an influence for his game, we got talking about it a few hours ago.

DikuMUD was also an online text-based game ( MUD = Multi-User Dungeon); one of the more popular in its time.
Actually, it mentions in that linked article that Godwars was one of the games inspired by DikuMUD, so I imagine they are very similar.
Ah, wikipediad it last night and said it was pretty similar to D&D.
Heh, didn't say anything about the inspiration though, you'll probably like godwars then ^^.
Never even knew this forum had any members who were into MUD's, I was expecting like 3 replies at best to this thread lol.

Godwars isn't mentioned in the DikuMUD entry (cross-references in Wikipedia suck; just one of the reasons why I hesitate to link to it), but it is mentioned as one of the DikuMUD-inspired derivatives in the general MUD entry.
Heh, nice to see you stopped by Kavir :D.
issed your post by a month or so, but meh.

That's the only text RPG I ever played it's pretty badass though.
This one looks neat, I'll give it a look.
