One of the reasons why we're exploring the idea of a console version of Diablo 3 because we feel that the controls and the style of the game lend itself to a console.
This line of thinking is pretty hard to dispute because he pretty much hit the nail on the head. Sure, many diehard Diablo fans are going to argue and say that it just doesn't make sense on consoles because it isn't "Diablo" if it isn't on my computer, but there's no arguing the fact that these controls would feel great when used with a controller. The analog sticks would work wonders for spellcasting and movement, and ironically (or purposely!) there are just enough buttons on the controller to match up with the spellbar and UI.

With some of our early experiments in putting a direct control scheme into the game via a 360-like analogue controller, I've been, 'Oh this feels even better, with direct control...'
To help show off this direct control (because hey, who wants to hear me preach?), malu05 from SC2Mapster has made a demonstration of just what exactly Diablo with a console controller would look like. I'd also like to throw out there, that I was able to playtest the Torchlight 360 console version and the game really did feel much better with direct control. If you want to read my review of TL360, head to the RunicGamesFansite.
Yes, he really is controlling the character with the controller!
Yes. Yes it will. I can finally understand why they are dumbing down the game so much.
The only reason i think you guys are ranting is cause you think somehow console players will make you feel less elite. The argument that PC will change for console is false they will put PC before console very simply put.
Just wondering...How will the AH work for console versions?
Imo, smart move by Blizz attracting new segments of gamers to play their games (which also imo are nothing but the best games put out) and involve them in the Blizz culture. I say let those who feel more comfortable on a controller go for it, I would no doubt try it myself and wont judge the playstyle until I... actually play it.
PC has always been my preference for almost every type of game and regardless I will no doubt be playing PC (whether or not a controller gets added to the mix at some point is another story I guess). All I really ask is that they dont let this venture delay D3 to their core PC market (ME) and they evaluate this move carefully, as Im sure they will... and maybe throw me a Beta Key 0.o
Second, yeah, I know a PC will do more than a console, bit it's not about horsepower, it's about comfort.
Relaxing on the couch with a controller is just better than some wonky keyboard and mouse setup.
Now, if I had a laptop that could run D3, honestly, that would be my preference, but I don't.
The computer hooked up to my TV now might run it, but I doubt it, as it's really just a media server.
So without a console version, I'm sorta outa options, as the idea of buying a new computer just to play D3 seems silly, but I'll probably do it.
