DiabloCast: Episode XXII - Be Your Own Demon

With the recent information from GamesCom and the end-game Panel that Blizzard conducted, we are curious as to how you feel about it. What kind of D3 end-game would you like to see, if any? Keep in mind, currently Blizzard is only planning on having the Inferno difficulty act as "end-game" for the release of Diablo III. Post-release though, they have some cool stuff planned, so let's let them know what it is that we want to see! :).

  • Infinite Dungeon: Imagine a never-ending dungeon (with a timer to track your duration), where your progress is measured by how far you make it (based on checkpoints!) and how long it takes you.
  • Horde Mode/PvP: Something very similar to the Horde Mode in Gears of War, where you must survive wave upon wave of monsters with, while in the Arena!
  • Pandemonium Events: Unique, hard to achieve content, similar to Diablo Clone, and Uber Tristram from Diablo II.
  • Unicorn Level: I think this speaks for itself, ;).
  • Inferno is good enough: Don't want anything extra and you'd rather just farm for items...
  • Other: If you have a different or better idea, let us know in the comments below!
If you want to watch the panel, courtesy of a french fansite, Diablo-3.net, otherwise continue reading for this weeks' DiabloCast!

In our previous poll, we wanted to know what ComicCon swag you were looking forward to the most... And the Tyrael Hoodie won by a landslide!

This time around in the DiabloCast, PhrozenDragon joins us as we talk about the new information from GamesCom! If you missed the twenty-first episode, you can check it out here. Otherwise, the twenty-second episode covered the following topics:

As I understood it, the minimum in Inferno is 61, not the maximum. I'm pretty dang positive on this one. I understood that there would be various levels among even basic monsters. How will it work? That I don't know. I think it will be mixtures, though. Maybe low levels like 61 would be reserved for low things like Fallens, while higher levels will be spread among skeletons, berserkers, all that crazy stuff, so you learn to REALLY fear the big stuff.

My suspicion is that monsters will randomly generate above 61. So there won't be any 'one place' you can find stronger enemies but as you play you may run into anything from say 61 to 65 or 61 to 64.

So you can't PREDICTABLY farm more, but it will make the difficulty vary as you play.

My question is, is once you get to Inferno, do you start from Act 1 and have to power through it to Act 4 like NM and Hell? Or will it all be unlocked to begin with, since all the monsters are "flattened out" in the entire mode?

Preeeetty sure you have to progress like the other difficulties.

I agree with the concept of a 'horde mode' style thing. Horde mode is one of the most effective styles of multiplayer gameplay that really fits in every style of game that could have mutliplayer.

    As to the armor style...
Someone said it looks like Shredder as if that's a bad thing? The Shredder is epic. ;)

I really do think that when you look at the armor art-style from the PROPER viewpoint(the higher up) it will look really cool.

There's a major reason Blizzard does the 'stylized' look... and you got it exactly right.

Realistic games look really awkward a couple of years back... they look awesome when they come out, but 2-3 years pass and they start to show their age. Whereas go play Final Fantasy 9... it still looks pretty damn cool.

i have two questions: first why is the date on the news august 23 when we are the 20 ? Second why is there no poll in the thread ?

As for the poll asked in the podcast my answer would be the infinite dungeon, and i would add it would be cool if said dungeon could have random generated bosses. And when i say that i mean not just champions and mini bosses like there already is in D2 but real big, act end like, bosses. Im sure they would be able to make a random boss generator with truly unique and awesome abilities. They could spawn every said distance traveled or at the last chamber of a floor before the stairs could open up for next level.

Btw Force i believe the word you were searching for when you were talking about listeners and viewers is audience.

I also wanted to add, as for the monster lvl cap in inferno. I believe they said that lvl 61 is the minimum as in the normal monsters will be 61, the champions and mini bosses will be 62 and the big act bosses will be 63. I think its what makes the most sense.

i really like the idea of Horde mode as the Challenge against wave of mobs, sounds awesome... i can smell achivements there :) hehe

i like the armor style, BUT? can you deceide to show the helm like in WoW ? becuase i didnt like the Helm on the INFERNO armor of the monk. so will you have that option ?

furthermore i must say that this unicorn level is amust for a diablo game after we was showed the Cow level in diablo 2. but i dont care if its a unicorn, it could be another animal / Mob.

the dungeon thingy on time is nice enough, but i wouldn't use it, because i will take hte time in a dungeon to Explorer it :)

    +1 for Horde Mode
  • #9 CrusaderGT
I am going to get flamed and hated by saying this but I would like a capture the flag kind of mode.

I think they should have an NPC in every act of Inferno mode called a Bounty Hunter. Everytime you talk to him, he gives you a quest to kill so-and-so randomized demon out in the wilderness that spawns in it's own randomized dungeon.

The monster would be as difficult and intimidating as Pandemonium Diablo from D2 - if you can even get to it. The dungeon would be specially crafted so that it would require intricate play, or near flawless teamwork to get through.

Upon destroying the beast and returning with it's head, a bounty is given. And for the trouble it took you to get it's head, it will most certainly pay off.

"So you can't PREDICTABLY farm more, but it will make the difficulty vary as you play."

oh please that would be awesome.

Game looks great but I cant believe you liked the monk armor, I thought less is more for the monks style. I would have preferred bare chest and tattoos for the monk rather than the xmas tree look he has now.

My vote would be for infinite dungeon too.

Inferno is good enough for me!

Don't wanna grind some silly "event" or similar.

That would be AWESOME ! pretty much what i said in more details i guess.

There will be cow level most probably anyway but it wont have anything to do with end game content.

Pandemonium sounds awesome but remember that Diablo 3 has no charms, so I doubt that it will happen because if pandemonium bosses drop inferno gear peaople will probably farm them.

One thing I hope is that there wont be daily quests. Maybe weekly is OK to keep people farming all inferno content. And those should definatelly be soloable.

I don't know if you set the content quality of your previous podcasts very high, but this one is not on the same level.
  • #17 patricw
I would like both a Horde mode and some Pandemonium Events but I couldn't vote for both :)

    Maybe high level gems?

Totally love the bounty hunter idea! One thing you could do is have the bounty hunter NPC extract a fee for his/her information. Very high price? You probably won't succeed, but if by some miracle you do, you're getting something very special.

I like the timed infinite dungeon idea also, but the more I think about it the harder I find it to come up with something that makes it really fun.
  • #20 kasperja
Very, very hard choice ... Many nice ideas! Voted Pandemonium Events, but a "unicorn" level would be awesome too.
