Earlier we found out that armor sets were undergoing some changes, and the female wizard has gotten a new unarmored look. However, the specifics of the changes were kept from us. But, now, we've got some insight into what was changed, and why these changes took place.
Official Blizzard Quote:
It wasn't a total rework or anything, these things rarely are. It was essentially a color shift from red to a sort of muted mustard color (which doesn't sound great but it looks awesome), and then a texture cleanup removing some elements and just letting the whole thing read a lot better. It looks a lot more like an unarmored look now, in my opinion. Before it was a bit busy and ... I think you also sort of have to have a very minimal naked look so that upgrades feel that much more "powerful". If you don't notice a visual change on the character with a new piece of armor then it's kind of like, what's the point? She had too much going on before. Now she looks like... haha, it kind of looks like she's about to go to the gym. To kill demons.
A step in the right direction, in my opinion. The only picture we have of the in-game unarmored Wizard is pictured at the beginning of this post. However, with a bit of photoshop magic, we can tweak the colors to a more accurate representation of the current look.
We must keep in mind that a simple color-swap was not the only thing done to the new unarmored female wizard look. As Bashiok pointed out, the previous unarmored wizard had a lot going on. Not so much the armor itself, but the colors involved. There are just too many; it seems very cluttered. Think back on the default armor of all the classes in Diablo II, all consisted of mainly one color.
This also brings into question how much armor will alter the looks of characters. Bashiok mentioned that currently, armor upgrades feel more "powerful" than before, due to the toned down unarmored look. This makes perfect sense, since the improvements will be much more dramatic than if we had an "armored unarmored" look. Though, it's still yet to be seen how drastically armor sets will alter your character. So far, this is the only picture we have to compare to.
Even with the previous unarmored look, it seems a very drastic improvement. More pieces of cloth and leather are layered on, new colors are added, and more "trinkets" are present in the armor, as well. Now, with the retexture of the unarmored female wizard, these changes will be even more apparent.
Oh well, you guys are right then.
Excellent point. The one thing I do like about GW is that you can get dye and change the color of your armor yourself. It would be interesting if you could do that in D3.
I believe magical affixes and similar features will do that for you. Like in D2.
And what i really want to see is the armor progression for Monks and WD. I hate games were some classes, just becase they tend to use cloths over armors, looks lame in high end gear.
But with GW, you can change the color anytime you get new dye, whereas you can't with an already gemmed item.
Yes, a bit useless but if the changes are noticeable even with full armor, then I guess it would add a bit of personalization.
All that talking about armor progression, I guess it's gonna be like in D2, where everyone looks about the same depending on armor tier (and some color changes). I hope some things are gonna make people look different from each other and dye would be a nice start.
I also think it will work like D2. Imo to prevent everyone looking the same they will add more "tiers" in armor look (actually this is half confirmed because in some blue post they revealed that one of the attractions of playing higher difficulties will be better looking gear - unlike in D2 were gear start to looks all the same after act 5 norm). Pluss it seens that the shoulders will appear on your character when you equip it (like shields, weapons and helms - unlike belts, boots and gloves), wich means theres one more thing to make our tons look less alike.
I can be wrong through...
Some armor progression has been shown.
Here is the first pic:

Yea I remember those, thanks for the images! If the "naked" armor style was like this, I understand that they want to make it more simple, though I doubt it because they said the first one was red, so my guess is it's your first image.
For those that do not know, that picture of the Rogue is artwork that appeared in the official manual that came with Diablo 1.
Some mods either had or have dyes in D2. Mostly what I have seen it did not turn out well. Eastern Sun had a form of changing the dye with gem melding but it did not turn out well.
Christ, Turmobil, you've been spouting wisdom lately.
Seriously, it's like you've matured over the course of a day.
Anywho, they can definitely make cloth look as badass as plate, if not cooler. Take Guild Wars, for example. Compare the Necromancer and the Warrior armors, basically all the necromancer armors looked cooler, and all were made of cloth. Or at least a large portion of them were made of cloth.
I was going to say I saw that picutre in the Diablo manual but I didnt want to say that cause I was not sure lol. Didnt want people to get in my face about it lol
Every character will be able to use every armor !! so Monk will use iron, and full plate but he will look different !
I don't think if you put "Gothic suit" the monk will look like with leather or cloth !!
If you put an iron armor I don't want see the monk in cloth, it's just no sense and stupid.
Look the picture of the monk, check the part of armor on his arm, it's not a cloth!!!!
You can have an armor in sort to not be importuned with your movement. Like only articulations that isn't cover. It's what I see for monk's big armor.
I think the Monk is designed for mobilty. The Monk is designed to give alot of damage but not designed to take hits. Monk needs to move fast to kill as well as not taking hits.
