Diablo III, the Female Monk
Ever since the Monk's announcement back at the BlizzCon (see New Diablo 3 Character Class: The Monk!) this last summer, speculation has run high and dry on the Monk, from skills and weapons to his energy source. The female version of the Monk has yet to be revealed, whereas in all the other classes we have seen, more or less, a male and female version, but Bashiok may be offering just a little bit of information for us to think about until the real announcement comes.
A pixie haircut? Despite the fact that in our world the Monk is a male-oriented figure, and bald, Blizzard needed a way to compensate for that with the female version. Although some have speculated a bald female, as well, it may be that Blizzard doesn't agree with the idea.
(If you don't know what a pixie haircut is, Google is your friend. See here.)
UPDATE (01/03/09):
Do you even know what you just said? Muscle is directly related to your speed so i don't see what the point of your post was. I don't mean she needs to look like the HULK or anything but at least be very very toned.
I think it's great that the art direction in Diablo 3 is drawing from so many references outside traditional fantasy archetypes in terms of character design, even drawing inspiration from contemporary pop culture. Some might not like this risk-taking (or pandering, depending on your perception), but I personally think its worth commending the fact that such an established, classic and beloved gaming franchise is still putting its neck out of its safety zone to take artistic risks, even though it doesn't necessarily have to.
Of course not (examples 1, 2, 3 & 4), and in no way was I accusing Blizzard of plagiarism or anything of that sort.
But I guess my (poorly put across) point is that I think it's great how an established game/brand like Diablo is drawing from references outside of fantasy archetypes/the fantasy genre and taking artistic risks although it doesn't have to, i.e. Diablo III would still sell a jillion copies if Blizzard decided to play safe on a creative level. Instead, it chose to take a gamble, which I personally think is really playing off especially with the new female Monk whom I'm really fond of.

Looks like they made it official.
