Ureh Confirmed - New Artwork Update

Blizzard has released new artwork, screenshots and wallpapers. As commented few weeks after WWI Paris, atrumentis had suggested the ruined city in the Diablo 3 Cinematic might be the Ruins of Ureh. The Wallpaper released today confirms it is indeed Ureh from Diablo: Kingdom of Shadow novel by Richard A. Knaak.

The screenshots show the lot of work the art team is putting into making outdoor scenarious look like a vivid and colorful 3D world right out of a museum painting. The second screenshot, in contrast, shows a darker atmosphere dungeon.

Hmmm that art drawing looks very similar to the first boss of Hellgate London. Looks like FSS wasnt so original, or maybe the other way around who knows.

Something interesting in the second screenshot is the stairway is destroyed, but a ladder is standing up on the side, against the ledge, suggesting that players might be able to climb up to reach the floor above.

What are you talking about? Player "might" climb the ladder? You see that exact scene in the gameplay trailer and the baba was going down the ladder and to the left.

You know what? I think all these artworks has something to do with Ureh.

In Kingdom of Shadows King Juris Khan received the visit of an Angel (forgot the name) in his dream which was actually Diablo in disguise. Has the fiery angel anything to do with this?

The Angel on the artwork looks quite demonic, could it be Inarius (Tyrael's Brother). People often theorized that Tyrael got corrupted, but if there is going to be one corrupted angel I think Inarius would fill that role more easily as he's been imprisonned in Hell for over 3000 years.

Lastly, as for the four-legged beast, I think it could actually be that demon that attacked Captain Dumon and his men at the beginning of the book. Maybe he will be an actual monster we fight inside the city.

What attacked them was some kind of feline-humanoid. They killed it.

Yeah I thought this immediately. In the gameplay video you see the barbarian go down that ladder, so its the same dungeon as we've already seen.

Ironic that MedievalDragon thinks it looks darker! Hope he didn't sign that petition.... :D

MedievalDragon, how does this prove this is Ureh? You've got two screenshots of zones we've already seen, and three pieces of artwork which have no title that I can see, and that don't even give a clue as to what they are by the filename. I'm not doubting it is Ureh necessarily, I'm just wondering how you came to this conclusion? Is there something I've missed here? I just get the impression you are jumping to conclusions!

Yes. On the Diablo 3 site it says "Ureh" on the wallpaper.

    Pffft. That could mean anything.

Did anyone else notice that the angel in that concept art seems to favor the one in my signature?

Looks like he's coming out of a portal.

Blah I'm really wondering who it is now!

I'll take your word for it, although I'm looking and can't see that anywhere, either on the wallpaper itself, in the filename or above the links to download the different sizes of wallpapers themselves. Maybe the site is regional. Maybe I just can't see it :D

I've been lurking this site for years but now I have finally registered. Anyways, here's an interesting comment I decided to paste from the Diablo 3 forums on battle.net concerning the (most interesting) new picture of the angel.

"It's Imperius, the Archangel of War. He wanted to destroy Sanctuary at some point, but Tyrael used his final vote to save it from destruction at the council of heaven.

Imperius' sign is an upside down sword or something, that's why I think it's him. Also, it would make sense that since Tyrael really influenced the outcome in d2, maybe he was cast down, thus allowing Imperius to descend on Sanctuary (the meteor in the cinematic?) to put an end to the descendants of the Nephalem."

Ureh looks pretty cool, kinda reminds me of the human city from Lord of the rings.

Whoa, it has been some time since I read that book. I ordered Archive a month ago at my local bookstore and it still hasn't arrived, what a rip.

You might be interested in the link in my signature directing you to the Imperius speculation thread then. :)

If you want to discuss it there, I'll be happy to.
