STARCRAFT 2!!!
Sorry everybody, it's not Diablo 3, but one thing we Blizzard fans are used to is WAITING. Diablo 3 will happen, in the meantime, let's all enjoy the Starcraft 2 news because Starcraft was one hell of a good game.

Although from a business perspective this move makes sense. Obviously, the smart move would be to make the next Diablo game an MMORPG (it would almost have to be in order to garner significant presence in the market), especially since the most successful games are moving in that direction. However, since Blizzard has had so much success with World of Warcraft (the online cartoon), I doubt that Blizzard would jeopardize that success by releasing a Diablo MMORPG. Large portions of WOW's subscribers, would most definetly move to a Diablo MMORPG.
Creating a Diablo MMORPG at this time doesn't make much sense for Blizzard. Therefore, I doubt we will see it for quite some time to come. A couple more years at least.
Now, on the other hand they could release another single player game, with multiplayer capability, just like Diablo 2. However, I find this type of game outmoded. There are only so many levels you can play, and the majority of the game-play is incredibly repetative. But this type of game could stand outside of WOW. Although, since they recently announced Starcraft 2, this option doesn't make much sense either.
It looks like us Diablo fans will have to wait several more years for a new Diablo title. Frankly, this seriously irritates me, since it's been 7 years since Diablo 2 was released.
...
I doubt whether it's a smart move to make D3 a MMORPG. Regardless of WoW's success or the claim that many WoW fans would 'move' to Diablo. From what I've seen on this site, there's a whole host of D3 fans who don't seem to be as faithul WoW followers as they are D3. Plus, WoW fans won't just leave WoW altogether and join the Diablo MMORPG community. My opinion anyway.
I kinda get the feeling you're trying to say that the whole MMORPG thing is killing the single-player appeal? My opinion is that a single-player D3 (with the multiplayer option D2 had) won't see a 'decrease' in popularity, just because the market is supposedly moving towards a MMORPG flavor.
"Why the heck do I like Starcraft? All I do is left-click and right-click (sure, hotkeys, but you can do everything with the mouse)."

Short period being... maybe well see D3 @ BlizzCon, or maybe next year.
And another thing.. why didn't they announce it @ BlizzCon? So that the world would see that their own show thingie is worth coming to. (Not that they won't come anyway...)
Taking note on who to bitch to if I arrive at BlizzCon and don't get greeted with 40-foot tall Diablo 3 cardboard cutouts.
lol. I've had that a few times too. But my thumb usually just rests on the alt key to press when I need to, and my other fingers do the potion-drinking
I played Diablo 2 LoD with a friend (multiplayer on TCP/IP) and when I hit the win key I'm like "oh shit! cover my ass! cover my ASS!", cos usually when I get back in the game, about three or four seconds pass during which, usually, I get slaughtered Not to mention the laaaaaaaag. For two or three seconds my character runs at the speed of light.
Good times
but still starcraft was a kickass game.
Lol that's just you being stupid
/runs
Since I only play hardcore, I can't risk pressing alt+tab.
Yeh. I'm starting to look forward to trying this game now. Too bad it won't be out this year.
