Great initiative! Sad to see that not many people are entering, as this will definitely help a starter monk out a lot. You might want to post a link to your monk guide here as well, so that they get to use the gear in the proper (intended) wayPosted in: Monk: The Inner Sanctuary

Hi All,Posted in: Monk: The Inner Sanctuary
I am monk number 2 in the OP (Yes the one with the crappy gear). We had so much fun last night - Monk is my 60 nr 4 and by far my favourite.
We tried running MoE and MoC, but found that the extra 20% resists from MoH (and maybe the shields from spamming it) helped quite a bit. We have not yet had any DPS issues (i'm at about 20k and Holydude at about 30k - but both have pretty high crit rates so it feels like those wonderful little cyclones fill the screen), so as soon as we pick up dps issues we will switch over to MoC overawe (probably with me spamming it). We also tried guiding light (or the buff dmg with heals passive) instead of trancendence for me, but it did not feel as safe and our dps did not increase noticeably (granted it was a very subjective test - oh crap we died once this must suck type of test).
We have found that the LoH on my weapon combined with trancendance keeps my hp pretty stable, which means I can use my heal for Holydude more often than for me. His HP is pretty spiky, but he does at least 70% of our dps (it feels like) and with two heals on him it works fine. Wish the would extend the range on the heal a bit though, playing with 250 ms lagg means we miss a lot of heals.
I have found that the only things we have some issues with are desecrator and arcane, as the mass of cyclones on the screen makes them pretty hard to see at times. Coupled with jailor or frozen they can hurt quite a bit.
On that note, I am in two minds over how to use serenity for frozen orbs. When you know you are going to be hit, do you pop it before or after the orbs explodes? Before buffers you from some damage, but after makes sure you dont waste it if you would have dodged it. I have found it works well to only pre-cast on dangerous situations and if there are more than two orbs in range?
I would also like to add my thanks to Shinna1989 - I used your advice on gearing and AH searching in some other post and it helped immensely (1.5 mil for gear plus a mate's old weapon and we will get Diablo down next time!).
