I think they had originally had the blacksmith have this ability then realized he had to many abilities, and so they gave it to the jeweler. and then at that point they realized it was sort of useless, because all people would do is just socket everything. I guess what they wanted to give people was this choice where, do I take the less powerful item with a socket, or a slightly more powerful item without sockets.
The big decision I'm finding this in is my weapons and helms, just because they have a specific upgrade when you add a gem (i.e. not the usual stat upgrade).

Posted in: General DiscussionQuote from anslDear OP.. your post stinks of "look at me I have a relationship with an actual female, hurray for me".
You're really thanking your girlfriend on a d3 forum instead of through the use of flowers, letters, chocolates, kisses etc.?
Sorry for being a prick, but WTF is up with that?
Does she only frequent these forums since you are using them as a communication channel? Is your post a statement of never-ending love and if so, wouldn't you be better off facilitating it otherwise?
How does this at all fall under D3 discussion?
Tbh, I did this primarily not so that she could see it, I said it because I've been seeing such negative aims at girls in gaming, just wanted people to know that there are some girls out there that enjoy our games as much as the males do. I'm sorry if the post is perhaps too positive for you, simply being thankful for something.
If this post is in fact, in the wrong spot the I agree, would a mod please move it, my mistake. I've never made a topic on these forums before.

Posted in: General DiscussionQuote from MerciLaylaHave you told her this or something similair? Sounds like a letter in the making ^^
It's nice you're appreciative of how things go and letting each other know from time to time makes for a lovely smirk
I was thinking of just linking this to her later on, don't know after the first reply though... would be terribly insulting

Posted in: General DiscussionQuote from UnvarnishedNot to be a prick but there's probably another guy. LDR never works. You're on your own against the Lord of Terror my friend. The warrior's path is a solitary one.
It isn't a long distance one, she went away for an internship, we've been living together for quite sometime now I shall face the lord of terror with hope and optimism! I think from the long distance we've worked it out quite nicely!

Just wanted to make a post about my girlfriend. I started going out with her right around the time Diablo 3 was first announced, and that was something I told her I couldn't wait for that it was going to be the best game ever and that we totally had to play it. We've gone through a lot of different struggles and challenges in our relationship, dealing with distance, school and communication. She went from being a person who rarely played video games at all to being a total gamer like me that I can talk to about game content and play hardcore games with me like SC2.Posted in: General Discussion
We've been living together for quite sometime, and she recently had to go away for an internship on the other side of the world in Hong Kong and I miss her greatly, what I'm more sad about is that she can't play Diablo with me when it releases. I know that we can play when she gets back, I've come to terms with that, but it's what she told me the other day.
She said that she really enjoys sharing the experiences with me, with going to the midnight launch, and opening up that collector's edition box, and looking through all the goodies. She said she really missed not being able to go with me to this midnight release because it has been something I've been following since the beginning of our relationship.
I think its weird how some people say women can't be gamers and how it's a male only thing. I know that my girl could give them a run for their money.
What I'm really trying to say though, is thanks, for being there for me, and not only learning about my hobby, but making it something you enjoy too, and understand its meaning to me.
Cheers to all the girls who take care of us gamer guys!

to be honest I read through the review on gamefront and it feels like he's trying to quell some nostalgic fanboy hearts by saying 'blizzard isn't what it once was'. To be honest, the whole community has gone through this phase multiple times in the games development. And not once does he mention that Blizzard has been listening to the feedback of the community because it is as much our game as it is theirs.Posted in: Diablo III General Discussion
i.e. take the colour from the WWI conference upon D3's first announcement, there was a resounding 'GET rid o' the effin' rainbows!' because of the coloring. Fast forward into the future, they still kept some colour but if you look at Christen Lichtner's GDC Art of Diablo presentation, you see how far they have taken that gothic dark tone, whilst still adding some color.
There will always be parts of the game that we aren't going to like, but I can tell, that if you've stuck around for the amount of time that the community here has. Had giddy, tingly, holy-crap moment when you see some crazy killer moves wipe out a crowd of monsters, then I know that you're going to enjoy the game, and nothing anyone is going to say in a review will change that fact.
On the flip side of things, I don't agree which reporters (reviewers) feeling they have to fluff what they write because Blizzard will swallow them up whole, and digest any chances of them having a career again. It's silly, you should have the ability to saw whatever you're feeling, some people may not agree with you, that's the tough thing about life. From a design standpoint, would it benefit Blizzard to stomp a bad review, no, there might be some juicy tidbit that they can fix in an upcoming patch.
I.E. PvP, I know that is going to come up in every review, they're like there wasn't any PvP, games broken! if you agree with them then so be it, but make sure to keep an open mind about the reviews. (Would you really want to go into PvP with like level 10 characters, without all the skills and icky armor?)
A review is an opinion about a game just that, if you're here, on this forum, I assume you're a diablo-fan :P. Reviewers shouldn't be worried about speaking there mind because it is just more feedback which Blizzard can take into account to fix it. The article mention above is just pressing the old nostalgia button, and I'm sick and tired of everyone running to that to say that blizzard isn't doing a good enough job.
In the end, I'm going to be spending my first day playing diablo, judging it for myself, not reading a review, taking that person's opinion to be the right one.

I made a versatile Ice-Mage, I tried to imagine myself in the depths of Hell or Inferno difficulty possibly HardCore and needed something for everything.Posted in: Diablo III General Discussion
here is the link to the build: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/wizard#dcjifP!WTX!YaYYZa
I aimed for skills that rounded out survivability but aimed for this combo-esque effect that I found I enjoyed in UMvC3.
Example: Need healing? put on your ice armor, and head into use spectral blades (the crit you get HP). Crit enough times with spec blades and you can open up with a big attack like your blizzard or ray of frost. Taking too much damage, back up with teleport which throws down some mirror images at the same time and send out your hydra. The beauty of using ice, is that it naturally slows baddies down, so you can maneuver alittle easier.
The passives just help you to increase your ice theme, help you with the crits and increase your regen so you don't have to worry about it in the later stages.
If you play alittle more defensively think about swapping arane dynamo for prodigy and switching astral presence for galvanizing ward, this will help your armor to be more effective and you get a regen, if you do take on galvanizing ward, plan on switching the spectral blade rune to something that benefits your play style.
And just remember GL and HF out there in the world of Sanctuary!

I think what the OP is trying to say is that there are more deserving people and I disagree with that. It's meant to be at random and that doesn't mean anything about length or your stay here. I think it's a good idea on curse's behalf to get people who had been lurking for the longest time to get out of just watching the content and start posting there own.Posted in: Diablo III General Discussion
Less feeling of entitlement and more feeling of 'I hope I win!' and just remember one more day, is one more day closer to Diablo! worry not about the beta, but about the actual retail version!

anyone think it's interesting that Diablo 3's recc. standard are less than SC2's?Posted in: Technical Support
I know that SC2 is probably a more demanding game with all the units and calculations. I just find it interesting!
