posted a message on Diablo III, Featuring BoE
Like Bashiok said BOE is not a magic bullet, just one of the many aspects to control an economy. I think BOE is a great idea and I am glad they are having it. Its going to make it harder and take more skill. People will have to learn how to play with what they have more. There will be less "cookie cutter" builds as well as in every WW barb has to have THIS weapon ect ect. I just think it will force characters to be a bit more diverse.

As far as the economy, if you took it in school and actually understood it you won't be arguing on how this will kill it. Its going to fix prices and not have them fluctuate like crazy. What is the number one risk to currency? Inflation. How do you cause hyper inflation, de-value a currency and destroy it? Flood the market with the currency. That’s why countries, for example Canada, have a central bank. They fix how much currency is floating around in the market in order to keep the value some what stable. Take Vietnam. A while back they built a bunch of infrastructure. To pay for it they just began printing money and devalued the absolute crap out of it. Now the Dong is so low its really not even worth dirt. I know this is long and there are many more factors that go into currency valuation but this is just simple short example to try and demonstrate supply and demand.

Supply and demand is the basis of economics. What I was trying to show with the example is if you can control the supply you can fix prices somewhat. The demand for high level items will always be high of course, so fix the supply as well, you fix the price. There will be a little fluctuation of course but that’s what you want. BOE will help control this supply. Again it won't be a magical fix but its a step in the right direction for sure. I think we are all taking the D2 economy as well and applying the changes to that to see what the effect will be. This is just simply flawed. The D3 economy will be completely different and my guess is it won't be an item based economy. Expect a shift to the gold standard; it’s the easiest thing for them to manipulate the levels of in the game.

Again, I apologize for making this post long but I want to give one more example of the effects of controlling supply to kind of drive the point home. Everyone remembers when oil prices per barrel went crazy, up into the $150 per barrel at one point. There are a lot of reasons why this happened and that will be WAY to long to go into but for arguments sake let’s say it was completely because the supply and demand was out of whack. Again before I get some people trying to pick that apart I know that’s not the only reason why, again, arguments sake. Anyways the Saudi Arabians came out and said they wanted, and felt, oil should be at around $75 a barrel. Check the prices I believe it’s at around $78 today. It took a while to come to that level and there were fluctuations as with any open market but look at a 12 month chart and you can see it come up and level off around $75 for around the last 4 months. How did they do this? Controlled supply. When your one of the largest oil producing nations you can do this.

BOE is just one of the engines Blizzard is going to use to accomplish these ends. As I said before my bet is we are moving to a monetary standard so controlling the supply of the items will fix the monetary value of the item. Now, to control inflation of the actual monetary unit we will use there will be many gold sinks the game that they have already talked about. Same basic principles apply to that. So now Blizzard will control all supply and therefore fix prices and demand. Demand moves as an adverse function of supply (forgot to mention this). As one increase the other decrease and visa versa. Fix one you basically fix the other.

So, in my opinion, bravo  Blizzard your head is on the right track and you are well on your way to making a much more viable economy! God I can’t wait for this game haha.

(Wish this would have happened in university could have used this for the beginnings of a paper :P)

posted a message on Poll: The Wait for Diablo 3
I have to say the wait is hard. When you make people wait and anticipate for so long it will serve to just amplify anything wrong with the game. Thankfully I really do believe the game is going to be amazing, and anythign decide I'm confident will be for the best. Bashiok has done well at dropping little things here and there for people to eat up and anaylze so I give props to him he is doing a good job helping keep the interest. I find though the things we are told arn't SUPER substantial. Its always this is what we are doing, possibly.... I wish we could have some sort of new announcement every month or two but that just isn't possible I don't think. And I guess they can't tell us anything because as soon as they say one thing if they change it later everyone will be all over them and who wants to deal with that? I'm sure they are doing their best and thats all you can really ask for right? So my opinion is they can take as long as they need.... but please hurry up! haha

posted a message on Scyber's fifth class idea
I'm ashamed to say I never played D1, I know I know I need to fix that but I need to find the game first, I never have been able to. So if that is the case how about the Merc from act 3 from the Wolves? (it was the wolves right?) I could see them doing some pretty awesome things with that. If that was the case that would go perfectly with Scyber's class, maybe a blending of the two might be pretty close!

I downloaded the demo yesterday and tried it out. It was ok like you said but was no where near diablo. Seems to me like it's diablo rated PG. I'm still up in the air about it. I AM a bit curious about the story line already

Yeah, they did say something about it being a returning character but not a class.

This is just a thought, and I may get shouted at for it haha, but if its a returning character and we need a ranged one, maybe could it be a Rogue from Act 1? Probably about a 1% chance it will be but who knows. They could make them way different from the amazon since all we know is they used bows. Returning character says to me it will prob be a NPC we saw before. They wan't to do something totally new so a class after an NPC is possible.

I'm surprised with all the NES games listed Ghosts and Goblins wasn't listed. That game is seriously just rediculous. If any of you have a NES still I CHALLENGE you to try and beat it. You will be able to eventually if you sit there for hours on end becuse you get unlimited continues. However, you can't save and come back later. Basically you are this little knight and Satan steals your girl. As you guessed you have to go save her. You are wearing armor and if you get hit once it's all gone. Oh ya and there is no armor to pick up unless you beat the level. Couple that with the fact that this was litterally the most unforgiving, cheapest game ever made you have something that will make you throw your remote and yell "F*&K THIS GAME" within 20 min haha. Anyone played it before or want to take me up on my challenge?

Torchlight is going to become a free-to-play action MMO sometime this year.

When it does become a MMO do you know if your characters you make now transfer over? If it is really close to D1 and D2 maybe I will give it a go! Even if it is only for one run through I'm guessing that will be worth the $20, I mean its not that much!

posted a message on Torchlight - Is it worth it?
Hey everyone in the torchlight community! I am acctually away on work right now and am looking for something to occupy my time in the evenings on some of those boring nights (I'm away for an extended period :(). So I'm wondering if torchlight is a worthy candidate for this? I love diablo 2 and after going through this forum it seems like it is pretty similar. However, since it is not multiplayer I'm a little worried. I love getting good items and using them, in D2 that was the best thing for me. Since there is no multiplayer I'm guessing I'm going to be forced to find everything myself. Is this super hard?

Also how is the replay value? Will I want to play it all over again once its done? What I mean by that is will I feel an incentive to like it will be a bit different somehow? Will the hours I put into it leveling a character and finding good stuff yield a sense of accomplishment or will it feel pointless because the character is useless after you beat the final boss?

And mainly, is it fun? Does it hold a "torch" to D2?

"We gotta get to a safer place somehow!"

Cletus looked over at Kon somewhat annoyed. There weren't many of his kind where he came from nor did he care much for them either. However, Cletus knew he was right. Although the group had downed 2 of the orignal 5 that came through the door so far all the shots we're attracking more. Putting aside the petty differences Cletus agreed with Kon

"He's right y'all" Cleuts said in-between another 2 shots that knocked another blighted to the ground with a successful knee hit.

"There must be another building close to here away from these god dang monsters" hoping this was the case so he could start putting his trapping skills to use

"Before we go there must be some kind of gun closet in this here police station, I say we stock up before we high tail it outta here!" Cletus said as he turned toward the police man

I saw the word "plasma" and was immidiedely turned off. LCD/LED is where it's at now.

LED yes, LCD not so much. You want an LCD if you have a TV under 40". If you have over you want a Plasma or LED now (although I don't know much about LED). The problem with LCD is there is a delay in the picture when its HD. You can't notice it in the smaller models but once you start getting up there action scense get blury and distorted, same with live sports. The only problem with plasma is burn in but that only happens when you use it for something like a monitor or you keep it on espn all day everyday and the little ticker on teh bottom burns in.
