Just an idea they use over on the minecraft forum, to stop all of the "my thoughts on patch xxxxx" could the Admins make an official "Patch xxxxx discussions" when patches in the retail editions go live. That way people can keep all their thoughts (good or bad in context to the patch not other people obviously) in the one place and yeah they can get a little ranty and be quite long but it might help the Mods with (potentially) reduced threads as mentioned earlier. One thing they do is if the patch notes havent gone live a mod can creates a second post as a place marker or just edit the OP with the official patch notes and any unofficial changes.
Just a thought

Super Cop! He knows where you live, he knows where you sleep.
The problem I see with this is we have 5 classes with usually long lists of changes and the some bugs, changes in scenery and all sorts of things patched in.
And that's what the subforums are for after all. People talk about very specific things. One thread for all those things will actually be worse for mods.
That's entirely my view on it of course. And I'm kinda new on the team. Others could think differently.
We have a news post for every patch where people can post. But we dont want to limit peoples thoughts there. There are a LOT of parts to each patch. Putting everything in one thread hurts users trying to discuss one part.
