I was never a fan of corpse explosion. To get some decent resists, I would suggest a 4 socketed shield with 4 um's put into it to get 88 resist all. Throw on an ammy, two rings, charms, and other accessories and you could potentially get 75 or more on all resists in hell. The more part would have to deal with items that increase your resist caps.

Outta some of the popular builds, my favorite is the Bone Spear based build.
20 Bone Spear
20 Bone Spirit
20 Bone Prison
20 Bone Wall
20 Teeth
1 Bone Armor
9 points left of your choosing
It's straight forward, and simple.
Stats:
Strength - Enough for gear (minimum base value of 75)
Dexterity - Nothing (Unless you are going for max block)
Vitality - Every other level (What is Bone Armor for?)
Energy - Every other level (I live dangerously in Hell)
First, you alternate Strength and Vitality, with Strength starting. Once you hit a base of 75 strength, put the points into energy. You need a large mana pool for the massive amount of Bone Spears.
Suggestions for wands are easy, look for Bone Spear. Other skills such as teeth won't help Bone Spear. Points to Poison and Bone skills will work.

My favorite build, by far, is the Poison Nova Necromancer. My skills are as follows:
PnB
Teeth: 1(pre-req)
Bone Armor: Max
Corpse Explosion: 1(pre-req)
Poison Dagger: Max
Bone Spear: 1
Bone Spirit: 1
Poison Explosion: Max
Poison Nova: Max
Bone Wall: None
Bone Prison: None
I tend to use the Fire Golem, but different strokes for different folks, I believe. The Revive skill is fun, although not totally necessary. I have found that the revives are much more likely to control a crowd as compared to the skelies and they take on the attributes of your most hated enemies. Nice! Now, all of my gear has 5-5 poison facets in them (+5% to psn skill, -5% to enemy psn res), so you can see where I am headed with that. I mean, my Death's Web wand offers -55% to enemy poison resistance and +5% to poison skill damage alone. Couple that with the Lower Resist curse and that's a nasty combo. I use Treks instead of Marrows, too. No Enigma either. Bramble, ftw. I stack + to Run/Walk charms in place of the mobility of a Nigma and it works quite well. Chaos runs are a breeze (in Hell, of course). I am unmatched in PvP as well with this build. I've probably made over 10 elite Poison Necromancers and plan to keep doing so. Message me if you have any questions and I will be happy to address them!

You do realize that with synergies, you can get a much better bone armor by putting one point into it and the rest into bone wall and bone prison. Cheaper on mana too.

I did a little bit of math to help people find out which skill to use. Bone Spear vs. Bone Spirit. I am doing the calculations based on Spear, Spirit, Wall, Prison, and Teeth being maxed.
First up, Bone Spear.
It pierces and has lower mana cost per shot than Bone Spirit.
It doesn't have to be targeted to hit, but doesn't home in.
And has a higher Damage to Mana cost ratio.
Here are the damage calculations.
Average Damage: 1306.5
Mana cost per shot: 11.7
1306.5/11.7 = 111.667 damage per point of mana.
Bone Spirit.
One target and homes in on them.
Doesn't need a specified target.
Damage calculations.
Average Damage: 2056
Mana cost per shot: 21.5
2056/21.5 = 95.628 damage per point of mana.
As you can see, Bone Spear does more damage per point and is better for PvM. If your not as concerned with mana usage, then Spirit is the one for you as it does more damage than spear. And with enough points, Spear will do more damage per shot. Maybe I should put something like this on the Wiki.
