Well, there's the first and last time I try to create some badass lava flows.
Dumped out my bucket of lava at the top of a cliff, backed up a bit to dig up some sand, ended up falling off the cliff, died, had to race back to where it happened, and my entire set of diamond equipment had been incinerated.
Fuck this game.

But again, people will just build shitty houses inside of the city limits due to the size restrictions, then build their fuckoff awesome houses outside where they have more space. Which will boil right back down to the "whenever, wherever" style of building.
And why is flat land an issue? Can we not MAKE flat land with pickaxes and shovels? We can find a fairly flat place, then just level a mountain, then go on to build our city where it used to be. Size really shouldn't be an issue, and I don't see why we have to structure this like a RL city, why must we have a designated residential area?
Should just rope off an area for industrial, mine shafts, a section for future expansion, then allocate semi-large building areas to each player. After house areas have been claimed and the foundations laid down, we build a wall around the city, leaving several extra plots for new players if we get any.
Just my nitpickings.
edit: This seems like the type of thing we should have a vote on...

If we spread our shit out too much, it's hardly going to feel like a town.
I say we just expand to 20x20 and call it quits, that way we have more than enough room to be creative, yet we still won't be taking up much space.
And furthermore, why the hell are we worried about space on an infinite map?
Really now..

One main corridor 3 blocks wide, mine cart track in the middle. Depth into the rock depends what you're mining of course, and length can always be extended.
Anywho, arteries every 2 blocks, so along both sides of the corridor from the very start of it, you get.
1 block mined, 2 blocks untouched, 1 block mined, 2 blocks untouched. This way you get maximum efficiency, since all blocks are uncovered this way (depending on how tall you make each artery of course, I've found that 3 blocks tall works best). When people need to drop off ore/other shit, they just come out of the shaft they're in, run over to the cart, drop off, then either continue their current shaft or make a new one.

Oh, nononono it's not the textures, but just the actual height differences, I was hoping he'd update them to be a bit smoother, instead of just the chunky blocks.
But anywho, will probably buy the game in 2 or 3 weeks.

Tempted to, sounds pretty fun :D.
I'll probably wait until they update the graphics a tad though, usually I'm one of those gameplay > graphics types, but the blocks... oh the blocks. If they didn't have height variation for land with the blocks, I'd be all up in that bandwagon.
Course', if they're never going to update, I'll hop on board :D.

I mainly enjoy building shit and exploring caverns, so probably an explorer/spelunker.

Either that or setting up some kind of port for us, could use an outside island for mining or some bullshit like that.

Did it recently stop working or some shit?
Definitely getting this fucker, building in it looks awesome.
