Ooo the Stone of Jordan recommendations sound nice, though +lightning dmg and sweeping wind bonus is gonna' be a little pricey for me haha
+elemental adds to black damage, if your weapon has +element on it it's less viable, all elements add the same damage. The only special element is cold to slow enemies.
Very nice. For that build consider a SW SoJ, maybe even a xeph amulet for spirit regen and dropping attack speed. As you favor magic find a xeph amulet gains quite a bit. If you get enough spirit I see some run deadly reach foresight in place of FoT for the buff, then infinite rush. I prefer blind of wrath to burn elites and buff SW.
wear a hellfire ring, boots have room for 100 more dex, bracers could use dual resist,
A bit offtopic, but how do you search for SW SoJ's? Do you really have to look all through the list of SoJ's from all five classes and different skills?
And nice monk btw, do you really need all that vit?
For SW SoJ search for all armor: bonus vs elites: 5%+, monk skill: sweeping wind. Only SoJ has this combination
You won't be able to combine those terms without searching for all armor, the name or rings will not work.
Oh, the uber set, still fairly defensive from before the nurf. In that set of gear I ignore serenity and pickup foresight/blazing wrath/combo strike for +49% damage. Attack speed is stacked to scale with blind and the strongest sweeping wind affordable. I find sweeping wind offers enough lifesteal to regenerate through CC and all that matters is DPS for ubers. It's cheaper to keep that EHP than it is to increase my DPS requiring defensive talents. A SW inna's hat, tal-rash chest & amulet is on the list for end-game but I do the tempest rush build for farming... requiring no attack speed. Just need to reach 100 to throw away the MP0 set.

i know i need some LoH or life steal its so expensive...
You have a total of +0% movement speed and that should really be 12% around 30k, 24% around 60k approximately.
Inna's pants, lacuni bracers, run speed rare, nat's boots, fire walkers, ice climbers, wanderlust ring. Any of those have the movement speed you need.
Bracers should have around 100 resistance, same with boots. If you go inna's pants you'll be in need of health. Shoulders or belt would be easier places to get it. +% health might help.
You're running with no life per spirit / on hit / steal. One weapon should really be steal or heavy loh at your dps. The ammy is a great source of loh, maybe blackthorne pants/ammy for a big defensive / loh boost.
I highly recommend d3up.com for calculating the benefit of certain stats. Look at the DPS and EHP gains per stat and weight gear accordingly.
Another interesting tool is diabloprogress.com with an item section that compares item ehp and damage gains.
In this section grimy has a guide on choosing talents, there's also a post on raising your monk to 60k.
From grimy's guide you'll likely want sweeping wind bladestorm up to 10% crit, then cyclone for dps.
Mantra evasion hard target > backlash to conviction overawe is a preferred order of mantras.
Aim for 800 LoH, try looking for 500+ on your amulet. Once you have your regen up your third passive may not be required.
Serenity is typically a required talent. If you're substituting sss try the one that increases it to 9 hits for a longer immunity window, else fulminating assault is the most general dps.
For my monk I'm fairly lost on a direction to go. MP10 ubers are killable with the PTR hellfire ring. With a few hundred million I could...
- raise echoing fury a couple hundred damage, maybe add steal with similar damage but it might be better to have one hard hitting weapon.
- 55+ res or 375ar+ inna's pants
- helm could gain some hp/dex, one resist, one open stat. The open stat could be vit, more resist/%, LPS, damage.
- trade 100 vitality for 50 resist on the chest
- if I buy chest inna's belt might be an option, else strong EHP rare, or vit/int/resist witching hour.
- second ring will be hellfire, I broke nat's boot/ring and I'm not sure I should do anything with my left ring or amulet until patch.
- Gloves have lots of options but I can't find anything great.
- I don't think lacuni rolls well against a better rare bracer.
- offhand is really hard to replace
Is it worth looking into better gear before the patch?
Given i say all this just dreaming about what my monk can do... im only around 11m gold and don't know what piece (s) to go after myself. helps for an outside perspective.
** lousy 10 post limit **
Thanks for any tips
It's common to see the weapon with higher damage in the left slot, I'm not sure if it helps or not.
Use the conviction - overawe rune and use the mantra as your spirit dump. No other rune comes close for conviction.
I assume you run one with everything and STI passives. They're fairly standard, STI can be replaced easily come 1.05
If you could get the same stats as your chest in your pant slot it could help.
I see you're running fleet footed. A cheap lacuni bracer was less of a compromise for me to gain 12% speed than 10% and losing that third passive. Using all three is the eventual goal. There's some interesting combinations of lacuni bracer to max run speed and blackthorn's pants for the LoH (and it seems you like MF).

this is my monk. started playing d3 again about a week ago and have been working on my gear. any tips/advice appreciated. around 750~ resists atm.
Not bad. Looking for a budget and what you are looking to do.
More vitality on your core items, huge vitality on your pants and chest, +% health is a neat addition. 30k is a general minimum, you can give up some resistance for it.
Right ring should have some combination of avg damage, crit or attack speed along with higher dex, left is fantastic. Bracers should be a higher dps item while you might be able to sneak some health on your boots.
us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/Schmii-1592/hero/17663041 100mil budget. more efficient 1.05 higher difficulty farming.

*I have a dual resist bracer/hat
rings could use a hit, try to sneak pickup radius on your bracer.
9.9 / 10
