also if you dont plan to run multiple programs at the same time go AMD. its extremely cheap and just as good as games. just buy a new cooler for it (got the PhenomX4 3.4GHz for like 180$ and its gonna last forever for me with an extra CoolerMaster cooler). also for graphics cards there's no need to go top shelf. the "second grade" ones are great for gaming both ATI and Nvidia. Ram should be at least 3GB tho, if you plan for the future too.

paid mine around 1000$ last Christmas and its playing everything on max so far and will do so for at least another year or so. its all about good composition of your system.
