Ah that's a bummer. It doesn't inspire me with confidence in D3 HC. I can't decide how much life I have and I can't have a strategically-placed TP (and I can't TP in combat)... hmmm doesn't bode well.
Yep, that's why I kinda chuckle at people who think D3 is going to be too easy. D2 was easy , with all the exploits, hacks and easy ways out. Not D3, sorry!

I don't know D3 much as yet, but is there anything to stop you putting up a TP before the fight starts and using it if things get tough?
That was always the way to do it in HC, you wouldn't have time to do it in the middle of the fight and try to get through the TP while still being hit by the mobs.
You set it up in a safe zone behind you and if things are too tough then you run back and up the TP.
You can't do this anymore. Casting a TP will automatically put you in town.
In D2:
Cast TP(instant)
Click to go through portal
Now you're in town
In D3:
Cast TP(10 sec)
Now you're in town
So no, you can't make "in case things get tough" tps anymore. At least not last time I played Beta

Correct. I suppose you can run away if things go awry. Unless it's Duriel's Lair type of place Then indeed, it's you or the boss. In hardcore at least. In softcore, you simply respawn, or your teammates resurrect you.
They removed instant life refill potions, no more instant portal, no save & exit, i don't mind fewer safety nets but there should be a possibility to run, Duriel is a great example from Diablo 2, you usually used your merc as meat shield, when he died you started eating potions like mad, if you were a caster you would normally port back to town to res your merc and buy more potions, if that was diablo 3 then a character without a huge amount of life leech/mana regain would die almost for certain after mana/life potions ran out or the damage taken was to rapid for the life over time potions to absorb.
This will just force HC characters to grind lower level acts/difficulties with low risk and low XP until they can safely take a boss, which in result creates a boring game in my opinion.
The current gameplay mechanics works great for softcore but i think there will be a change in hardcore down the line.
I don't think so. I'm actually glad Hardcore will be more "hardcore". Separate women from the girls and all that.
