The first two had pretty good stories, if you actually stayed a while and listened to the NPC dialogs.
But most people just play the games for the multiplayer, despite it being made as a singleplayer, hack and slash action adventure game that just happens to have multiplayer mode.

I find it irritating when companies change lore around, like "Oops, we made a boo-boo!"
What else are they suppose to do then? Go with imperfections that they didn't foresee earlier, or do something about it? Developing a solid story is hard, especially if you try to piece things together at a later stage, when originally you started with a game that lacked a solid story.
Indeed, but the whole Inarius thing is annoying, are his follows overlords or not, D1 says they are, Sin War not so much, and Blizzard have stated the the Sin War books are the official lore. I havent finished the trilogy yet, but He better still get his wings and eye torn off and his skin flayed and thrown in a prison of mirrors, doomed for all eternity to stare upon his now hidious form, that was so brutal.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
Difference in books: Inarius' followers are no longer angels, but humans whom he gave lots of power to(Gamuel etc). Overlords never mentioned. We dont know if Inarius is in the hall of mirrors or if he is even disfigured. Maybe he'll be back, huh?
And that is pretty much the issue at hand. Some of us love the punishment he got. It's so brutal and cool at the same time, it makes you think to some of the Tartarian punishments some of the characters in greek mythology got. They usually reflect the way in which the person lived in some way, or are twistedly ironic. And that's why we loved it. Now we don't even know if it's still the case. We can guess it is and Blizzard didnt say it isn't. Yet neither did the say it still is. Kinda how Blizzard works.
They won't say they are, yet neither will the say they aren't.

I'd just got done learning the game lore to the point where I knew it virtually front to back, now I have to learn all the new stuff/changes.
So annoying, but also fun. The Diablo novels are always good. Well the ones I have read are anyways.

Blizzard have stated that what is present in the Sin War Trilogy is now the offical lore. Yes there are contradictions to game lore, we are now to accept book lore is true lore.
And that messes up what Inarius is as well as the demons known as overlords. Which is rather a shame as the game lore regarding these beings was very interesting.

Solomir's appearences here are a rare thing indeed, but be sure, his lore posts are nothing short of brilliance. Corrected even some of us who fancy ourselves learned, when it comes to the Diablo lore, yes, myself included.

Genesis, despite Solomir's lack of post count, I know for a fact he studies Diablo lore more extensively than anyone here. If anyone can even qualify for an expert in Diablo lore, it would be Solomir.
Solomir is d3.com's foremost lore expert. If I have a lore question I ask him.
Though I did forget he made that earlier thread, might have been something with the title, informative as it was.

But it was nice of Knaak to consider the Diablo community in this matter because that shows they are aware that there are a great deal of us who do care a lot about Diablo lore as opposed to merely the gameplay itself
not sure whether Blizzard cares or not, but Knaak sure does.

Seems as though Blizzard have gone and changed the Diablo lore, but is if for the better, or for the worse?
I am merely delivering this to you, as it was delivered to me.
Hi, Avi -
All what I wrote in the Sin War was as Blizzard has decided the
official story shall now be. I agree, it differs from the original
Diablo material, but that is because they have expanded well beyond
that now, just as they did with WoW. Even at the time of Mel's book,
this was not so, but was decided shortly after. Obviously, what
happens after Inarius is turned over to Mephisto is up for conjecture.

So what, now the books are more canonical than the games, which intoduced the lore?
What are your guys' thoughts?
