Compared to the rest of the gaming industry, you'd probably be surprised by how small the Diablo III development team is. And the reason it's relatively small is because we do want it to be a family of highly talented individuals who have a certain synergy to challenge one another -- developers who know what they like and don't like, but at the end of the day can come together and agree on a design vision. - The Answer.
You know that Skyrim doesn't huge amount of the best quality cinematics in gaming industry right?
The fact that I can play Skyrim for well over 300 hours constantly experiencing new content I've never seen and be constantly immersed in extremely well written quests makes this irrelevant. Don't get me wrong good cinematics are nice, and I especially love the D2 ones(I personally thought the d3 opener was extremely stupid and didnt compare to d2's) but while playing Skyrim, there is so much content you just simply don't worry about the lack of cinematics.
While you're enjoying all of this amazing "content" (lol, fetch quests) you never stop to realize that you are just repeating the same exact environments, textures, enemies and weapons throughout the whole game? That's the difference.
In Diablo 3 I guarantee you will see varied, diverse landscapes and there will be hundreds and hundreds of items. Skyrim might have Diablo beat in the random story generated content but that's the ONLY thing it can claim.
The "content" I'm referring to is the 120+ different unique dungeons in the game. The enemy variation may lack but the environment variation is very good in my opinion. Other than the dungeons there are tons of different environments. I was just expecting everything to be snow covered but that wasn't the case. I agree also the item number and number of unique items will dwarf that of Skyrim's, but you cant say the environment variation is lacking. That's just not the case.

The point I guess im trying to make is, the time they have been in dev... can not tell us how many people are on the team... HOWEVER... I just remembered something... 1 second.

Good find. Where did you find that? According to that it looks like a pretty good size team. I agree it has to be the reiteration of major systems that has delayed it for so long. That could be due to inexperience on the team
Wasn't the only change made when blizzard north disbanded back in 2005? I know that version was scrapped and they got right back to work on the version we know of now. If this is correct that still would be 6-7 years of production.
Diablo 3 has been in development for some 6-7+ years. To make a 2D environmental game and have it take this long is just ridiculous. The team behind this game has to be extremely small.
Bethesta's team of 100 or so people made The elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in 3 years. Less than half of the time d3 has been in production. They developed an entire new revolutionary engine and and a massive game all in this time. Skyrim's content and environment detail is downright amazing. I can almost guarantee it's content and amount of quests will dwarf that of diablo's. And its a 3D environment, unlike diablo. Sure d3 has 3D character abilities and other things, at its core it's still a 2D game. If i had to guess how long it took Bethesta to make that game, I would have guessed 6 years or more. But it didn't.
Another thing people say is that Diablo is an online game. Do you think it really takes an extra 3-4 years to produce online hardware? No.
This leaves no question about it. Diablo's team must be extremely small or they're just extremely lazy which most likely isn't true. A game like this should in no way take 6-7+ years to make. It's just ridiculous.
Another hostile nerd dumbass complaining about the changes. We all know you're going to buy the game and play it forever like we all will. And what the hell is Square-enix? That definitely sounds comparable to a blizzard game.
Focus is the resource Hunters use in WoW. And it's orange. Blizzard wouldnt use the same thing for D3. Wasnt already officially stated hatred/discipline was the resource?
