Use it incorrectly? People can use rep however they please. There is no correct or incorrect way besides the stuff in forum rules (no flame in rep etc.)
I'd say that passing rep back and forth just because another person gave it to you, is using it incorrectly.
Ugh, I'm not ranting about this again, already made a substantial post explaining my thoughts on this.

Yeah... the rep feature is pretty neglected, and you guys really need to lay down some guidelines.
I mean it's fully functional and all... but it's just there.
Specially for the new forum users :/.
And some of us older ones who haven't grasped it yet, or who use it incorrectly.

... I think he knows what a moose is, he is Canadain, after all.
Not knowing what a moose is when you live in Canada is fucking blasphemy.
Back on the whole rep thing..
I was putting my name in my rep comments for a brief while, then realized that completely defeats the purpose of rep.
Rep is made to give to people if they've made a really good post, given a thoughtful point, ect. Not for "hey, he gave me rep, I'mma give him some". That defeats the purpose of rep going to those who deserve it, and just ends up with people passing rep back and forth simply because they gave it to each other. In that way, you could have a shitty poster who has tons of rep, simply because he gives it out to fucking everyone. Rep should go to those who actually deserve it, simply giving rep to somebody should not qualify you as a rep recipient.
Odd epiphany I had, but it was an epihany nonetheless :/.
After realizing that, I stopped putting my name in my rep +'s.

I'm pretty sure there is no way to see who gives rep, aside from being a staff member.
Haha, I've only ever seen one person with negative rep. He deserves it though, not gonna lie he's a total dumbass, never contributes much to this forum.
Shall remain nameless.
Hmm... now you've got me wondering what the description is for horrible negative rep...

It all depends on how much rep a person has. For example, if a person with 49 rep gave a +rep to somebody, they would get +4 rep points.
Every 10 points a user gets, they give out one more rep point when adding rep.
Same goes for negative rep, users with higher reputation will take away more points than those with lower rep.
So if that same person (49 rep) found a shitty post and wanted to own the poster, they would take away 4 rep points.
Hope that clears things up :D.
Unless I'm horribly mistaken, I'm pretty sure that's how it works... anyways. Can any mods confirm/deny this ?
edit: Ninja'd by Seth, damn him and such.

Something isn't right :/.
And thank you for the list of all the reputation levels Phrozen, thats something that I've been curious about for quite some time now :D.
Should definitely revamp the rep levels though...

Now up to 36 :D.
And not many people use rep, we really need to get users to hop on that bandwagon.
I throw positive and negative rep all over the place.
